    9mms: M&P 9L Performance vs. CZ SP-01

Finally took my M&P 9L PCP to the range today and decided to bring my SP-01 (stock) to see how it compares. I'm not a competition shooter, just an average joe who likes to shoot as often as time and budget permits.

I decided to start with my SP-01 because its what I shot most recently so figured I'd warm up with it. Put 20 rounds through it then decided to pick up the M&P. I'd been waiting so long to shoot it that I couldn't wait any longer. Finished the remaining 30 rounds with it.

Overall, I love both guns but for different reasons. The M&P's smaller front sight made me feel I could shoot with a little more precision; although I'm not a good enough shot to really take advantage. The M&P actually had less recoil than the CZ which I kind of expected given the M&P's ported barrel. The trigger on the M&P had a lighter pull and a much shorter reset but was also kind of gritty and doesn't really give you indication of when it resets. It kind of keeps you guessing although I got used to it pretty quickly.

Even though the CZ had slightly more recoil, its still one of the softest shooting guns I've ever fired. And the grip fits my hand like it was custom made for it. The M&Ps grip leaves a lot to be desired to me. Tried the different backstraps, but none even feel as good in my hand as my gen 3 G17. The CZ trigger wasn't quite as light but still feels a little better to me. I like the crisp break and the very clear reset. The M&P performance trigger is much better than my stock M&P's trigger, but its still a little gritty. I know Apex can fix the triggers but I wonder why they aren't just made better in the first place.

Anyway, before today I figured I'd fire both guns and sell the one I liked the least. Turns out I love them both. Looks like I'll be hanging onto them for a while. Not sure what the purpose of this thread is. Maybe a mixture of boredom and insomnia.

The grittiness will be less and less the more you shoot. Give it around 500 rounds and you will feel the difference.

The stock trigger on the M&P 9mm breaks in very nicely with a few hundred rounds of actual use. But don't tell that to all the folks who junk the stock trigger and mod out the pistol with aftermarket parts before they ever even fire it.... SMH

Haha. I was going to say at least 200 rounds but revised it to give it a buffer because many people think their pistols are junk prior to breaking it in.

I've been looking for a pistol for my GF, I gotta get a CZ in her hands to pull the trigger on before our search concludes.

Proto, sorry man. I originally bought the gun mainly because I knew it would be rare and I figured I could make a few bucks toward something else in the future. I had also never experienced a ported barrel and liked that it was done from the factory. I anticipated liking the gun but really just wanted to see what it was all about before letting it go. I didn't expect to enjoy it so much...

For what its worth S&W says they'll upgrade any standard M&P. You could pick up a M&P 9 or Pro (I see a lot of them in the marketplace) and send it out to them for modification. I know there are a lot of master gunsmiths out there but I really like knowing the work is factory done and won't void a warranty.

I'm so peanut butter and jealous! M&P PC has been my unicorn for a while.

No worries man. But if you do end up getting sick of it I'll still be here and you better not sell it or trade it to my cousin...

Actually right handed. I know... funny considering the shots on the right instead of the left. I'm not exactly sure what to correct but I need to center my shots better.
