An FFL told me that a PPT seller had to sign a form in the shop to complete the PPT sale. Is this true? How do people "ship" then for PPT sales? I was going to buy a gun PPT and the seller's in NorCal, I'm in SoCal.

People do not ship for PPT - the law governing PPT requires the participants appear at the same FFL, and that the FFL keep the gun in question.

The PPT process is not the only way two people can transfer a gun. Sometimes people assume any transfer between two people must be PPT but that is not true.
If the gun is on the roster or roster exempt (like C&R), or is not a pistol, it can be shipped and will be handled as a dealer transfer not a PPT. In that case the dealer can charge what they want for a transfer fee. It is no different than if it came from out of state.
But if it is an off roster pistol that is not exempt from the roster, it must be done as a PPT. PPT must be done in person by two CA residents at a single FFL.
Also note the one in thirty rule applies to dealer transfers if it is a handgun that is eligible for dealer transfer.Last edited by SkyHawk; 08-30-2015, 7:30 AM.Comment

You go to receiving ffl to sign dros and any other documents involved in transaction not the ffl shipping the firearm.Comment
