So what is the process time needed to create a kydex holster?

Just wondering how long it takes to create a OWB kydex holster. From heating up the material, to molding, to shaping, sanding, and anything else I might have missed. Few hours tops? Maybe a day or two if you really are putting quality into the work? The reason I ask is because I've been waiting on a custom job and it's been much longer than expected lead time. Only reason I'm not pressing is I don't have any training scheduled anytime soon. But still, unacceptable.

I think most guys making these do them on the side. Not their main job. So if something comes up, your holster gets priority zero.
I had someone on Calguns whip me up a Glock17 OWB a year or 2 ago. Had it in about a week. From payment to receiving product.
If you requested an oddball model, it could take longer.

nailed it. kydex doesn't take crazy long to do. but when there's 30-50 orders ahead of yours, it can take awhile.

I dunno, ive never messed with making kydex...have you? Can you whip up a quality holster fast? Im just saying, let the more experienced tradesmen deal with it and you be the customer and have patience for the quality work your paying for.

It's not the time to make, its keeping up with the backlog. When Alien Gear makes a holster for $45, I can tell you they don't have more than an hour in the process, including assembly and packaging. Others, maybe a bit more. Of course, a volume operation can invest in more tooling. I'm sure they are not hand trimming and drilling each holster. A die cutter or CNC machine is doing that.

Also, they likely batch orders as much as possible. If they can get 40 folks backlogged on a specific holster, then they can make 40 units without having to change to press tooling. Tooling change-outs cost time.

Why not just hire more workers? Its easier to keep a backlog than lay-off people when demand wanes. A little overtime is cheaper than a new employee too.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I just know I placed my order at the end of May and the lead time at the time of my order was 6 weeks. It's about to be double that time soon. Majority of IG postings have been of kydex wallets, rather than holsters. Anyways, thanks for allowing me to vent a little. I'll be sending an email to him soon.

Defy Concealment. We worked almost all through text with sketches and mockups. Great guy, awesome products and only took 2-3 weeks for custom holsters.

I ordered from Instagram post I came across. Strongside Holsters was the name. Lead time was 5 weeks. Just got it today actually. $40, why not. See how I like it compared to my GCode Incog.

+1 for Defy Concealment. I spoke to Devon about a custom kydex wallet, excellent communication, fast production time and great worksmanship! Uber happy with the custom acreen print wallet! Im pretty sure a holster is a little more complex requiring a little more attention to detail and time. I will be ordering from Deft Concealment/ Devon in the future!

To the Ops question, a standard holster doesn't take a ton of time by itself to make. If I was to make a standard OWB holster from start to finish without any other projects it would be roughly 1.5 hours. It ends up being less than that for my standard production process though because I create a sort of production line. AKA if I have 5 OWB holsters that need to go out I will press them all, then cut them all, then sand them all ect... until they all get finished at roughly the same time. I find it speeds up the process a bit overall.

I won't bag on other companies, so I will just explain our policy. We guarantee lead times. Period. They may vary depending on size of order and our current workload, but whatever lead time we give you is absolute or the entire order is on us. Like currently, if the order is just an Item or two, our lead time is 2 weeks. I don't like the idea of YOUR money sitting in MY pocket, with nothing in your hands to show for it.
