fixing a 1022 reciver

a friend has a 10 22 she would like to sale, but has a dl engaved on the top.
is it possable to remove said or would it cost more than the rifle is worth??

its possible, do you/she have any sort of grinder, preferably something small like a dremel? i'm in the market for a 10/22

How much is she selling it for? 10/22's are cheap as it is, so is she selling it at a low enough price to still be worth it if you have to put time and money into repairing it?

Do you have any pics? The receiver is aluminum and sanding and refinishing a 10/22 receiver is a common and fairly easy project. I think it all depends on how deep the engraving is.

If your willing to sand it and refinish it, I'd bet there are products on the market you can use to fill in light indentations prior to painting/coating, etc. I'd check midwayusa.com

Bottom line, how bad is the damage and how much time and money are you willing to spend?

if it's a painted receiver, the fix is quite easy and cheap. If it's anodized, it's not worth the cost.

It is compleatly do-able yourself.... although how good it looks afterwards depends a lot on your skill and the location of the engraving.
It gets dicey if it overlays the serial number (you do NOT want to obliterate the identifying marks)

Sand it, smooth it, primer it, sand again (repeat as neccecary) and then duracoat the whole thing... it will work. just don't get paint on the internal surfaces (mask it off first)

I'd fill it rather than sand it off. Retaining integrity of the reciever would be my priority. Or just leave it..is it that unsightly? Where is the "dl" on it?

a naked black reciever looks better than rugers silver stainless ones i suggest stripping it put some wax on it and install a stainless barrel

well i bought the rifle, every one needs a 10-22 or four

scope will not cover the dl number as it is above the ejection port not quite at the edge and just not to were the scope would mount up.(aka center line)
the numbers and letters are not deep so a quick "grind" and a good polish after a easy fill. should work.

the ser number is on the side of the reciver so no problem there,

but there is a single shot .410 shot gun up for sale.(see the for sale page. 79 lookers no takers. ).
