Searcy 4 Bore left handed double rifle

Here's a gun that you won't ever see, again.

Butch Searcy up in Boron is selling a stainless steel 4 Bore double rifle (1.025" caliber) it shoots a 2,000 grain bullet at around 2,000 fps. It's an underlever rifle that weighs 25 Lbs.

Surgery for detached retinas and shoulder damage is not included.

He's asking $30,000 and will restock it to right handed for $3,000

I already got the retinal detachment.

But I find myself strangely aroused.

So... is that like a elephant on steroids gun?

What's the intended purpose, seriously? Or is it just a "screw you, this is 'murica" gun?

Heh, you need to read about the big bores, early magnum cartridges, the type of propellant they used, the kind of performance they got, how African humidity affected ammunition, etc.

Sure it can look just like an overkill today, but there is almost two hundred years of history right there.

My question is if it shoots bullets and the bore is over 1/2" how come it's not a destructive device?

An 8 bore is smaller than a 4 bore. Bore size is based on how many lead round balls of bore size that it makes one pound.

Because it's received a sporting exemption from the BATF.

                Thank you but no.

I'd pay 10 or 20 bucks to fire one though.
