Yeah they are the best. It is kind of a combination of this and next Christmas and a going away present because at the end of the month I'm going to be living in Tijuana/Baja for two years. So hopefully I'll be able to get the gun soon, take it shooting a few times, dry fire it until the trigger becomes butter smooth, clean and lube it really well and package it up until I come back

Don't get an upper. The wait time on those is insane. You can get something you can use sooner. Get the upper with your own money and wait until the buying panic subsides.

1911 or a business pistol (M&P, Glock, etc)

I like the CZ, but I'd pick the above before it.

The Jericho is a very nice handgun. Bullseye has one on the rental range that's quite a bit of fun.

Since you have an extra lower get an upper to go with it, or an XD .45
It's better to have it, and not need it, then to need it, and not have it.

Dude, are doing your mission there? Be careful, kidnappings and murders are at an all time high right now. Aren't you not legally allowed to own guns down there as well? That being said, you can get a RIA milspec 1911 for $500, or pitch in an extra $200 and get a Kimber custom II.

Get a CZ - you won't regret it.

I have several and I really like the way they are put together, the way they handle (balance & ergonomics) and the way they perform. This is a proven design used around the world. I especially like that it's an all-steel design - not that a plastic gun won't work well, it will... but to me there is something timeless about steel.

Whatever you get, I hope you enjoy it and get decades of good service from it.

Long guns importable only with hunting license. No handguns allowed under any circumstances.

I know, tell me about it. It seems like every day there is like 4 execution style murders, heck this past weekend there were 9 decapitated bodies left in a vacant lot. Some parts of the TJ are worse than Baghdad.

I have no intentions of brining any guns down there since, 1. its illegal, and 2. Missionaries are not allowed to have them. But who'se to say I might buy a knife and pepper spray if I go into some harry areas of the city. From what I have heard, the cartel members offer protection to missionaries since most of them are catholic(ish) and want to help "men from god".

Well, just got back from two FFL's in Santa Rosa in my search for a CZ-72 SP-01, neither will do internet transfers, one couldnt find the gun in his dealer book and the other quoted me $700+$25 DROS because of the "election" and wouldnt even bother checking the availability from his supplier unless I put the money down . So I just e-mailed the kitchen table FFL who handled my OLL's....we'll see how this turn out
