Question: Why is the used handgun market more than the retail? For instance I see glocks selling for 2x as much used than new.

What's driving this if you still have to go to an FFL?

California just has higher prices.

But in the case of Glocks, the ones I have seen with such high prices are Gen4 models, not on the Roster and currently unobtanium in state, except for the private parties who did the work to get them before the mechanism used became illegal. Seller's market on those.

The only Glocks that are selling anywhere close to double the MSRP are the 43's. Price is driven by availability, demand and the Roster.

Better get used to it. Its been this way for a quite a while. People ask ridiculous prices even for used guns that we can still get here.

Not this again.... why is it everyweek we have someone posting about a free market. It's supply and demand. If you have something someone else wants would you sell high or low? The demand for off roster pistols has a low supply. There aren't many of us who are exempt or have children/parents/grandparents in another state to be able to obtain off roster pistols. Plus, like Librarian mentioned California prices are usually 1.25x-1.5x the going rate than free states.

These guns have been lovingly broken in and been caressed by the hands of champions and heroes. Who wouldn't want to pay more for such a blessed firearm?

That and CalGuns is a relatively high volume site and if you wait patiently you will eventually get a bite from an ignorant sucker.

Because people can sell their property for any price they want.

They can ask any price they want. Selling it at that price is another matter.

Seems self evident that what drives it is the desire to get as much money as possible from the sale.

Or did someone already say that possibly they have been ordered by Unpleasant Wife to sell guns they want to keep and they want to put guns up for sale as ordered but be able to say that they are "Just not selling Honey. I tried."

Just look at how crazy the housing market is right now. $100K - $200K jump in the past year or so. Once you understand the reason behind it, you will understand why Glock gen4's can sell for the $$$ it demands.
