    Proof of residency *update*

If the DOJ website specifically says a cable bill is acceptable proof of residency , why won't a local shop honor that ?

Can someone explain why it would not be accepted?

My name and address as it appears on my dros and DL.

    Update. ...
So I called again and finally the Manger says it will work.

They should if the name, address, etc all match your CDL.

I just DROS'd a PPT yesterday using a City Water Bill as second residency proof.

Some "counter monkeys" at some shops are ignorant. Some are just dicks.

Was the cable issued in the last 90 days?

The bill for service is current yes.

I've used a frontier Internet bill recently at other shops. This baffles me.

Just improper training combined with the unwilling attitude to do any extra work.

Ran into same problem. I live out in the sticks so everything including CDL, car registration, and ever thing else come to a PO box. DMV did a printout that shows where my residence is. I know sucks!

I had the exact same issue happen to me once at my closest LGS which shall remain unnamed. I went to DROS a pistol, gave them my DL and cable bill, and the guy looked at it weird, then went and talked to another guy who shook his head, then he came back and said they can't accept the cable bill. I said why not, I've used it several times before and the DOJ says it's acceptable, it's worked fine at other gun shops, and he said well not here.

It's just ignorance I'm sure, they must not be current on their understanding of California law. You can try to argue the point, but I suspect more times than not they won't admit they're wrong and just insist on being buttheads.

FFL seem to have their own ideas ... best to ask them.

Apparently the manager is too busy to talk to me about it.

                  Go figure.

What if they won't follow DOJ rules of acceptable proof? I mean I try to be off the grid with the exception of my cable bill.

Become a regular at a small, locally owned store. Those folks will remember you and most likely you will be talking to the owner and not some manager or counter clerk.

For purchases I generally use a buddy that has his ffl. But I had to do a ppt to someone and they asked for this shop. Its a beautiful place. Friendly staff, but hit or miss on the info you get over the phone.

Call 1. Hi , going to stop in for outbound and inbound ppt's, what's the fee?

The FSC is not new - it took effect January 1, 2015.

Since it (or, for handguns only, an unexpired HSC) is required for any purchase, asking what was required for PPT and not getting that included is like being surprised you need money to pay for the gun.

That said, had you asked me I would have mentioned it.

I suppose the surprise is kinda like that, if the currency based system all civilization uses was just invented and I hadn't "purchased" anything since that started...

I mentioned it was for a rifle over the phone, I guess I'm too used to calling about pistols and automatically being asked if I have my hsc. At any rate I passed with a perfect score and now my overlords deem me worthy to purchase a new rifle.

I just find it lame that I paid for an HSC a year ago , then 4 years before it needs renewing, I have to pay for another one that supercedes first one. Should be free to take the test and get the new card that includes rifles. What's next? ASC? Ammo safety card? Then what a safe transport card, and a safe storage card ? Safe cleaning card? Safe loading card? When does it end?!

And yes librarian, you're very thorough in your information.

                              Librarian is absolutely right.
But Socom14 You left out the part that the test is almost exactly the same as the HSC and the fact you can use a current hunting license still in lieu of the new card. Might as well go to Reno and hand them our $25.
