    California gun laws

Thank's for accepting me as a new member. While I've been Life member of the N.R.A. for over 20 year's now. However I basically know nothing about the gun law's in that state.I would like someone who has the time to quickly go over the major difference's between the rest of the country.

I own mostly semi-automatic rifle's of military type's such as the Colt AR-15 H-Bar,Yugo SkS's,Egyptian AK-47 the Maddi, along with hunting rifle's I recieved when my father-in-law passed away.I never got into hunting but love long distance shooting.I also have a few pistol's but I'm not into them.

I Re-load for my 8mm Mauser,7 Remington Mag,300 Winmag,308 and many other's that my father-in-law taught me.So I like to roll my own as they say with high performance bullet's such as Nosler and other decent type's..Well please let me know of the difference's between your state and the rest of the country. Many Thank's.Jim

    Welcome.

Check out the flowcharts at the top of the page in the blue bar. That will give you a good idea of what you're looking at. Here's the semi-auto rifle chart.

Once you've read the charts, come back and ask any questions you still have.

This thread also has a lot of useful info and links.

Can't speak to the rest of the country; start here for CA: http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/index.php/Main_Page
ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

If it has ANY evil features (pistol grip, forward pistol grip, folding/telescoping/thumbhole stock, flash hider, grenade/flare launcher) it needs a bullet button. You can't import your >10rd magazines. Some guns are banned by name as well. Your Yugo M59/66 are illegal unless you remove the grenade launcher.

Your statement that you have a Colt AR-15 HBar caught my attention. I believe, that rifle is banned unless you registered it as an assault weapon prior to Jan 1, 2000.

Really, to learn about all of the draconian guns laws in this state is staggering; we now have cities passing their own little gun ban laws. It's unreal, we need flowcharts, manuals, penal code pages, Excel charts to keep up with the mess.

Look up California Assault Weapon ban, may issue carry permits in some urban areas, and the handgun safety roster. Plenty of reading. Come back with some specific questions. Welcome

another shining example that there are probably ten's of thousands of law abiding people living in this State that don't even know the firearm they purchased legally years ago is now making them a felon...all due to some innocuous feature that is a part of their firearm

The DOJ estimates that about 10% of "assault" weapons were registered by the deadline. I'd expect massive arrests for those with the other 90%, but that hasn't happened other than occasionally.

...or turn it down a bit with a lathe so it won't accept a grenade.

DOJ sent me a letter as to the SKS thing as I owned 2 at the time. I ignored the letter. Nothing happened.
