Glock 21 upgrades

Hi Calgunners,
Would appreciate opinions on the following situation...
I own two Glock21 gen3s - they were my first two handgun purchases and I like shooting them both very much.
I shot a friend's now off-roster G21 gen4 and the thinnest grip felt pretty darn good...
So given the realities of the California gun market, who would go with two tried and trusted G21 gen3s vs. 1 G21 gen4 + some cash towards an AR?

I believe gen 3s to be the most battle proven. Keep 1 gen 3 and sell 1 towards an AR.

IIRC the thinnest grip on the Gen4 gives the same dimensions as the G21SF.

OP, look into getting a grip reduction done on one of yours if you liked it that much more. I have meats, so my G20 non SF and my Gen4's with the biggest back straps fit me best.

I'd just sell one of the gen 3's and use the cash to fund an AR, unless you really really see the gen 4 as worth it

I agree, I think the Gen3s to the be best of the Glock breed. They have worked out any and all kinks. I'd keep one at least. Sell the other for + or - $500 and put that towards a baseline AR. Shoot that AR till you are ready to upgrade then build a sweet upper (after selling the stock one for like $250-$300.

Sell both your 21's. Buy a G21SF and an AR.

I think the gen2 Glocks are what made Glocks reputation and went thru the torture tests. The gen3 only added a couple cosmetic features. I have gen2, gen3, & gen4 Glocks, my Gen2 G19 is my workhorse #1 go to handgun.

I have the Gen 3 21 and the Gen 4 21. I like the Gen 4 much better, just for the fact that the grip is slightly smaller without any backstraps. That being said, I have never tried a Gen 3 21 SF so I can't compare to that model. My advice would be to check out the SF version and see if it is comparable to the Gen 4 your friend has, and if you like the shorter frame of the 21 SF over the Gen 4, get the Gen 3 SF - it will be cheaper than a Gen 4 and you can sell both your current pistols, buy a SF and partially fund an AR.

The point I failed to make clear was that going with a G21SF would save him some money over the Gen4 G21.

Your suggestion of a grip reduction is another valid way to go.
