    shotgun storage

I have a question and shotgun storage or firearm storage of any kind. Will it cause harm to store a shotgun in a gun case lined with foam? I have a few over/under shotguns without room in the safe. Can I keep them in their case or will that harm the blueing?

Cases trap moister, moister causes rust, rust is bad.

I have read comments similar to yours several times. However, when I deployed for extended periods of time and I stored my guns in hard cases with foam inserts. I also smothered a heavy coat of CLP on and in my firearms, and I never had any rust form.

Younger have been in a very dry climate. Some place with more moisture present will cause more problems. Plus bluing on a shotgun is not as durable of a finish as something you would deploy with.

I've had a few old guns stored in a decentcheap walmart style plastic/foam lined case for 15 - 20 years.

Years ago I took them out and found a few rust spots, so I cleaned/lubed them up generously, put them in gun socks, and back in the case they went. I don't have much choice in the storage of these firearms and am not motivated to buy a better case for them.

That said, I would highly recommend you take better care if they're important to you, and NOT store them in a cheap foam lined case. If you must do this, at least buy some silicon gun socks and make sure your guns are clean/oiled before storing.

Pick up some silicone impregnated sleeves and use them for storage. The foam can trap moisture and some will react with the lubricants.

I use silicone treated gun socks when storing long term in a case. It is cheap insurance.

Only if you like rusted firearms. The Silicone treated socks are fine.

I have seen pics of some nice pistols get rust spots when stored in foam lined cases for extended periods of time. I would use the silicone gun socks...

                    Use these...

Wipe down the gun with a silicone cloth or similar. Remove the foam from the case, put the Borestore'd shotgun in the case, toss in a desiccant pack and you should be ok. Check it frequently until you're sure you're good. You can probably get two or three guns into a single case.
