    Congrats Poway Weapons and Gear!

I like this place because it's clean and friendly. Plus they have long lanes too. Anyway, I find it very interesting this is the only range in California that Guns and Ammo gave five stars to. In fact it's the only range that made the list for CA.

    Anyone else enjoy this place?

I don't really enjoy them fingering my goods whenever I have shot there. Seriously there is no way those guys can afford to replace either of the X5 match pistols so perhaps it is best they do not handle them before I shoot on their range.

What exactly do they do that would ruin your gun? Do they bang it against a safe or something?

Also, I'm sure they could replace either of those guns. They aren't exactly rare collectibles.

+1 for PWG. Got to know staff and RSO's, all are very helpful and courteous. Also being only 15 minutes from my house is another bonus. I don't mind them checking my firearms, I was a bit weiry at first but just got use to it. Sometimes they are conversation starters, you'll get them admiring your gun/rifle.

So what are they checking them for? And I really don't care what they think of my guns...

I have no issue with a clerk looking at what I bring to shoot. Just might keep a few clowns in check, I'm sure it does. People do some stupid stuff at ranges, sometimes before they get to shoot.

Haul butt & leave a dust cloud on the hill to my fav range, they send you home. Chambers loaded when you show up, same thing. Ranges see crap like this all the time.

I've yet to visit SD's newest 2 ranges but I should.

They're checking to see if it's loaded. Range policy is that your weapon should be unloaded upon entering the range. And if you really don't care what they think about your firearms, that's great for you.

Yeah it's a nice modern range. It's 15 minutes away and I was really excited about it - before it opened. Getting in and out of there is like going through airport security.

The check-in process can use some work but what you're pointing out isn't something that's much of a problem for the sake of safety. BTW, I'll take those X5s off your hands if you don't like them fingered.

I went here for the first time today. Really nice facility. However, I was teaching my wife to shoot and she was jerking the trigger. She hit the plate protecting the target carrier. She was shooting 38 wad cutters. There was no damage, but the force on the gears could damage the carrier, I'm sure.

The range officer gave us a little attitude, nothing serious. However, he pulled out a can of black spray paint and sprayed black spray paint all over the strike mark on the carrier protection plate right over my guns. Then they charged us $20 for the carrier plate strike. I get the $20. But WTF spray painting your plate steel right above my guns?!? I didn't realize what he was doing until it was too late. Really Pizzed me off.

You're a range officer and you're spray painting my revolvers laying on the table below the carrier?

I guess I will carry a can of black spray paint to the range?

I should have made it a bigger deal, but I didn't. Getting in a pizzing match at the range is never a worthwhile activity.

I've been there twice and they never fingered my weapons. I feel a bit neglected now. Of course I'm 53, gray, no tattoos, No flat-bill hat, kinda boring I guess.

I've been going to PWG since they were a little hole in the wall shop in Poway. They're hit or miss when it comes to certain things. I did a PPT there and it took well over 45 minutes. Some of the sales people there remind me of Turners folk.

I do enjoy the 100 yard range but if I want to shoot pistol and rifle that day you can't shoot pistol on the 100. You have to mosey on over to 25/50.

Most of their accessories are way over priced. Ammo is decently priced. They do have an assortment of nice rifles.

Oh, and they're vending machine takes debit cards.

Good place to shoot. A little pricey but nice big lanes with modern programmable carriers.
Retail is a little on the high side, I usually parts and ammo online.

                            overall -

I went there finally good to see they hired some people who are personable. I remember the first time i went to thier shop years ago it seemed like the employees were more interested in watching TV than helping. Their prices were way too high at that time so i never went back except for a PPT that me and my friend did there because it was near his house.
