Here in So Cal it's been pretty warm and unually humid. I store my firearms in a Liberty safe out in my garage along with all my ammo which is packed into a steel cabinet. Both are bolted to the floor. My question is... should I be concerned with how warm the inside of my garage is getting during the summer months? As far a humidity, I do have a de-humidifier in the safe along with disacant powder pack in with the ammo locker. All my firearms get cleaned and oiled after use and just before storing. I should think temp here in So Cal (Los Angeles area) shouldn't be too much of a concern. Just looking for feedback...

You should be concerned about the effects of continual temperature swings on ammunition. In time, rimfire in my experience has gone bad, meaning miss-fires. How it effects the priming compound on everything else can vary, but understand that manufactures advise to store ammunition in a cool, dry place. The interior rooms in most residential dwellings don't get too warm, so to my mind this is the best option. Keep it in a room that does not get much exterior sun exposure; these are usually cooler, especially if located on ground floors or below. Never in an attic. Crawl spaces below raised foundations are usually much cooler as well. You can easily make a nice door opening to these spaces on a closet floor between floor joists. With regard to raised foundations, be sure to place loads over joists and close to verticle supports, just like you would when mounting a safe or RSC. If storing on a slab, you are usually OK, but check for water leaks if it ever rains in SoCal again. -
The past few days have been really humid.. I have disscant packs with the ammo. Ammo in ammo cans with o-rings I don't worry about.Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

I store mine indoors mostly in a safe that has humidity control (desiccant type). I have a bunch of 22LR mostly CCI and Winchester and some foreign 9mm that was purchased probably in the 70s and kept in boxes in a detached garage near Bakersfield where it got over 100 in summer and into the 30s in the winter. I got this from my Dad a few years ago and decided to go ahead and try to shoot it to see if it would still work. I have shot quite a bit of it and have been pleasantly surprised to find it 100% functional. I can't recall a single misfire with it.Comment

You have a dehumidifier and dissacants so your fine. Growing up and living in OC in 30 yrs, I found nothing was needed, never had issues with guns or ammo storage wether theyv were inside ir in the garage. Living in Bakersfield over a decade now, no issues in house or garage here either.Comment

I would expect temperature swings to lead to more airflow in/out, so you'll need to refresh your dehumidifier more often. I wouldn't worry otherwise.Originally posted by CSACANNONEERA real live woman is more expensive than a fleshlight. Which would you rather have?Comment

If you ammo can store, try dry ice packing. You put enough dry ice in the full can to sublimate, and displace all the oxygen. Then close the can, label it, and put a zip tie or seal strap and date of seal on it, so you know what's in it without having to break the seal, and to rotate stock.
Guns will be fine if you clean and then use a thicker lube to protect. There's a reason they invented cosmoline. For shorter term storage I'd just keep applying fresh clp or clean motor oil (whatever your poison is)... for the ultimate in long term storage, look into disassembly and individual packing. It's totally unnecessary for 99% of guns, but it'll definitely work.
Keep doing what you're doing and it'll be fine as far as the metal goes. Storage of wood and plastic stocks might be different, but I imagine they're close enough to what the metal wants sans oil. I'd also cycle the action and dry fire a few times whenever you reapply oils.Comment
