    Clinton-era gun control tactics pushed

Metro-IAF (whoever that is) is pressuring Obama to apply gun control tactics to federal firearms acquisition procedures, (Remember Smith and Wesson?) all the way down to your LGS.

Most of these guns are sold by distributors - the manufacturers have no dealings with the retail outlets. I doubt any manufacturer is going to overhaul their distribution model in order to exert control over what dealers can sell their products, just to win an Army contract.

And at any rate, there will always be a secondary market if that happens, and dealers will go on selling whatever they want including products that a manufacturer doesn't want them to sell. Just a bunch of noise - bark but no bite.

The article notes that even Bloomberg is against the strategy. I doubt any of the major manufacturers would go along with this, which would leave the army buying what - HiPoints?

After the flogging that Smith and Wesson got, I don't think any manufacturers will go along with any of this.

This. If you are a company that only/predominately sells to the military/government it might make sense but otherwise, not so much.
Check back later for a witty comment.

Mean while, in reality, the violent crime rate per capita is lower than it has been since 1970. Look at the murder rate per 100k, lower than it has been since at least 1960. http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/uscrime.htm

So what is the reasoning here? Oh...wait...clinton and Obama...Right.

The only maker of small arms I can think of like this would be FN. I wonder if this insane idea would include makers of crew-served weapons and heavier. Imagine the bizarre restrictions that would be imposed on General Electric.
