Interesting commentary on gun defense outcomes

Know your gun's limitations and know the criminal mind.

In these scenarios (where armed people defend themselves), the predators stumbled upon the exact opposite

So, ask yourself, what if that criminal — the one who was obviously still capable of great physical activity like running out the door and getting to the hospital after being shot — decided to keep fighting?
That's what most uninformed people don't realize. They have been conditioned by the TV where a single handgun shot causes the person to fly through the air into the wall and collapse stone dead. A single shot kill with immediate incapacitation is highly unlikely with a handgun.

Bottom line, if you get into a close quarters gunfight with an armed perp determined to kill you, you will likely get shot. That's why it's smartest to find cover or better yet: stay out of gunfights unless you are forced into a place where you have no way out except to fight.

Yep. That is why I posted this. Those myths can get you killed if you aren't prepared for real gunfight. Further this is why I'd prefer a long gun for defense whenever possible. A lot more power to neutralize threat with every shot.

My CCW instructor had a portion of the class time dedicated to this concept. He was very clear - if you get into a gunfight, you may get shot. Statistics say you are likely to survive (as is the bad guy). So, I'm paraphrasing, but he asked the question "When you do get shot, are you going to lie down and give up or do you want to stay in the fight?"

He then discussed how to stay in the fight giving tips on mental and physical conditioning for such. At the range, we did drills for weak side shooting and single handed mag changes and slide releases (boot heels and belt buckles!). It was good stuff and gave perspective to those in the class that had never considered that the bad guys could be shooting back.
