    Sitting while carrying

I have 2 pistols I am going to carry (M&P Shield and a Sig P226). The Sig also has a light/laser combo on it so it's a pretty big unit.

Ordered IWB holsters for each from Multi-Holsters. The one for the Sig showed up last night with the Shield holster on the way. Beautiful holsters btw if you are in the market.

Just wondering how people do with sitting while carrying, particularly in a car while driving. Tried the Sig holster last night without the gun (gun is off being worked on) and damn, it is bulky. Fine while standing or moving around but sitting, it feels like I have a 2x4 in my pants (refrain from the wisecracks please).

I'm hoping the Shield holster will be better. Concealing the Sig with a light and laser IWB was kind of a pipe dream anyway but the holster is well made and feels pretty comfortable for it's size.

Just wondering what people do when driving. Take the gun out? Have a holster that attaches to the steering wheel or under the dashboard for quick access and then reholster on the hip when you get to your destination? I'm open to suggestions.

I use a Alien Gear IWB holster and carry a 9mm Shield. The holster sits on my 3 o'clock. I'm kinda a fat dude and I never really had a problem. I don't even feel it while I'm driving. The sig though, that's probably another story. Too big to carry comfortably, for me at least.

I'm 5'9" 180lbs and conceal a Sig 220 in a crossbreed holster with out an issue (no rail, light, or laser). Buying a good belt and pants one size larger make concealing a full sized handgun more comfortable.

Pocket carry mostly, but I have a very light flat holster that I can
        1. pull firearm out when in car, or
        2. pull holster and all in one motion, replaces pretty well also.

P.S. the holster fits a few different firearms has clip, & belt loop, IWB,OWB, can run either way. Is it awesome, NO, dose it work, YES.

My tubby butt prefers pocket pistols for a reason. Give me a J-frame any time.

The light / laser deal really adds bulk

EDC is a full size 1911 with TLR2 in a Bladetech OWB holster at 3.

              What I have noticed is:

In my truck - what gun....
In Mrs TTM's SUV - noticeable - sometimes needs a little adjusting
In a regular car - did someone attach a tree to my hip.

I'm not a fan of taking it in and out of the holster unnecessarily so don't dig the secondary storage option.

Everyone is different and vehicles can be different. Perhaps its a matter of finding a holster that works for you, your gun and your vehicle. I'm sure there is one out there.

I prefer single clip IWB holsters from Alien or Crossbreed myself with a 15% FBI cant myself.

I carry IWB at about 3:30. Which puts the weapon right behind my hip. Draw is fast and easy. Concealment is great with very little chance of someone bumping into your weapon.

As for sitting and or driving I is very comfortable because there is an empty space right there on any seat. It is still very accessible when sitting. A little harder to draw in the car. I have to unbuckle the seatbelt first but still fast and easy.

Yup, that's what I am running, a single clip IWB with a 15% cant for both guns. Might carry the Sig in a backpack next to me on the seat where I have my EDC kit (knives, lights, etc.). Think I am just going to have to experiment, see if I can draw the Sig out of the bag in reasonable time if I have to. Think the Shield will be better for IWB carry in the car.

Mitch Rosen is known for high quality gunleather. he offers the OWB CCR (Counter Carjacking Rig) for those that spend a lot of time in the car. he recommends only using the holster for in the car use and elaborates with a description of the holster as a "situation-specific cross-draw ONLY" holster. his website states he makes this crossdraw holster for "1911 to 5", most Glocks and most Sigs." i don't know if he makes the holster for other handguns and i have no history with his gunleather. the cost is $145.00 per his website.

Think twice about off body carry.

Several reasons why it's not ideal.

                          1. You hit the brakes and your backpack and weapon are now on the passenger floorboard.
                          2. Many many people I know who off body carry have accidentally left their off carry bar somewhere like the bathroom and had to go back and get it. (more then just embarrassing)

                          3. I have a friend who off body carryies in a one strap backpack. He lover it.

Last week when he went to leave for work it wasn't on the hook by the front door where he ALWAYS leaves it. He frantically searched the house. Nothing. Frantically searched the car. Nothing. Drove to work and checked his desk. Nothing.

Drove to the sheriff station and filled out the theft report because someone obviously stole it out of his car. Totally bummed.

Went home and told his wife. She said "Did you check the video?"

Duh spent the next two hours reviewing the video system and determined he had not left it in the car but clearly had brought it into the house.

                          Researched the house .Nothing.

                          It finally did show up.

When he got home he broke his routine. Instead of putting on the hook he dropped in on a chair in top of a pile of laundry.

You guessed it. Wife scooped up laundry and put it into the washer.

And Back to the Sheriff Station to cancel the report.

I've never misplaced a weapon on my hip.

                            +1 for Alien Gear.

I can comfortably carry all day, get in and out of cars, everything.

I usually carry a PX4 Subcompact, but I can still be just as comfortable with a full-up 92FS.

Musty nailed it. With the exception that I use Desantis iwb holsters (mostly 'cause they were inexpensive and not plastic) my experience has been the same. My full size 1911 and my mid size xd are hardly noticeable.
