Would this require an FFL transfer?

Ive tried researching it and couldnt find my answers so thought I would ask some of you guys. Someone moves to california from out of state and owns firearms still in that other state. Does this gun owner have to FFL transfer them to themselves even if he or she already owns them? The manufacturer ships firearms directly to someones door comming back for a repair and i heard somewhere that you can ship firearms to yourself.

No, he doesn't have to transfer to themselves.

Yes, he can ship firearms to himself to his new residence.

Once he is a resident of the state he needs to fill out this form and pay the amount due, but only for his handguns..

(B9) May a nonlicensee ship firearms interstate for his or her use in hunting or other lawful activity?


Yes. A person may ship a firearm to himself or herself in care of another person in the State where he or she intends to hunt or engage in any other lawful activity. The package should be addressed to the owner. Persons other than the owner should not open the package and take possession of the firearm.



(B10) May a person who is relocating out of State move firearms with other household goods?


Yes. A person who lawfully possesses a firearm may transport or ship the firearm interstate when changing his or her State of residence.

Certain NFA firearms must have prior approval from the Bureau of ATF before they may be moved interstate. The person must notify the mover that firearms are being transported. He or she should also check State and local laws where relocating to ensure that movement of firearms into the new State does not violate any State law or local ordinance.

Thanks. I was trying to save a customer money because she moved in from out of state and left her firearms behind. She also doesnt have her new ID yet so its not like I could of FFL'd them in if I wanted to. I know she could of brought them back with her but she is already here.

The second question, B10 sure looks like she's covered. After all, she is relocating, therefore "may transport or ship the firearm interstate when changing his or her State of residence".
