.38 Silver Tip Hollow Point ammo

.38 caliber 125 grain Winchester Silver Tip Hollow Point

any thoughts on this ammo for Home Defense purposes...thinking about it for my Ruger GP100 .357

not sure if i'd enjoy a .357 HD round going off inside my house

also, being a Silver Tipped Hollow Point, will it also be a good HD round against werewolves? Or is it Vampires...no wait, Werewolves AND Vampires?

Ok, so i know for Zombies it doesn't matter, just a head shot will do, and, im sure the silver takes out werewolves, but, i think i read something about vampires too...i know a stake to the heart will take out a vampire, i just don't have any HD stakes, checking though...in the meantime, will silver tip ammo do the trick too

anyway, im probably wandering too far off point here, lets just start with anyone's thoughts on the .38 Winchester 125 grain STHP round for HD

Just put a little garlic in the hollow part and you're covered.

All you have to do for vampires is run a little garlic on the tip (I would probably rub a bit of bacon grease on there too...), doesn't need to be that much. And yes the silver tip will work for werewolves. And you've got the zombie not already down.

As for HD, I have no idea but I'm interested in finding out the same thing. So, tagged.

        Edit:
I found this article which is quite long, but seems to have some decent info.
        38 Special

Loads for full size .38 Special revolvers with 4" or longer barrels:

The Numero Uno .38 defense load for your 4" barrel revolver is the Cor-Bon .38 Special+P 125 grain JHP. It is a very high-pressure load and should be used only in modern six-shot revolvers. It has less felt recoil and muzzle flip than the #2 choice, which follows. When I carry a 4" .38, I want it loaded with this cartridge...
Specifically mentioned the Winchester silver tip.
The Federal Hydra-shok and Winchester Silvertip may look cool, but the boring-looking Cor-Bon and FBI loads do the job in a 4" revolver. Stick with them.

        YMMV

They're OK rounds; better than wadcutters - less than .357 JHP's. I keep .38 +P 125gr. JHP's in my snubnose around the house - but if I KNEW trouble was COMING, I'd put .357 JHP's in there in a heartbeat.

I'd go with Speer Gold Dot 135gr JHP , Low flash propellant for short barrels.

What if it was a werewolf bitten by a vampire and a zombie at the same time, then turned into this hybrid werezombiepire thing?

It must be true, you baseball players really are superstitious.

BTW, when I was a LEO, I was issued .38 Special Silvertips for my S&W 60. I still use them.

I know the design has probably been improved over the decades, but Silvertip got a rep for being too light and too lightly built to do the most damage. (Re: The Miami FBI shoot-out.) I prefer heavier bullets moving a lil' slower than fashionable in all SD handguns, with the exception of the .357, where I stick with the ol' lightning bolt 125g JHPs at speeds well past supersonic.

As for vampires, I distinctly remember Blade using silver very effectively. One time after he cleaned house, the vamp reporting the massacre mentioned "He used a lot of silver."

.45 ball will vaporize 'em, of course. (But only from a 1911.)
I meant, it is my opinion that...

a lycanthrope would not be impressed by a "Silvertip" since the jacket is Aluminum, not Silver at all.

I think this is just like the spider issue here.

if you just leave them alone...

they are more afraid of you...

who doesn't go crazy on full moons sometimes ?
and if you see someone sucking someone else's blood...

                        mind your own business or
just pay extra for that next time yourself.

                        that said...

                        " All zombies must die! " ...

er... be killed ..er..Zstopped .whatever it is you call it when you stop a zombie permanently.

To be safe yeah, but a wooden stake thru the heart will suffice...

I wonder when they are going to make wooden bullets?
