    Discount Gun Mart Semi-rant

I was down at my brother's house to fix my sister's computer today and in between transferring some files I decided to go to DGM to pick up some ammunition, as I am low in .44spl SD loads and I wanted some .22mag snakeshot. I inquire about .44spl and they don't have any at all, just .44mag, which totally sucks. Then, I ask about the .22mag snakeshot and they have a box of 20 for 7.99, sweet! After checking out prices on tasers for school (over-priced even at a "discount" store), he rang me up and then informed me that the ammo I wanted was marked with an old price tag, it is actially 9.99 now. Feeling a little gyp'd (sp?), I turned down the purchase and walked out.

Totally lame. Just had to vent a little bit.

I believe the law says that the price marked is the price it is sold at, even if the pricing is out of date -- that's on them, and not your problem. If it had been for something worth more, it would have been worth your time to push the issue.

Principle man. The retailer should have honored the old price.

DGM is DGM and I would never recommend going there for ammo.

Just saying it sucked to have a store not have what you really need then change the price on you when you try to buy it.

If you want to get truly analytical, a $2 increase is 25% over original price.

            That's lame.

Yup if its marked a lower price it doesnt matter. legally they have to sell it to you for the price.

Putting the store on blast for 200 pennies is kinda lame. Im sure if you had asked to speak with a manager they would have honored the price. Retail employees tend to not give a damn and not know a damn. Creating this thread is pretty weak, bro. Plus, .22 snake shot? Who the hell wants that? Dont you have a larger caliber firearm to shoot snake shot out of?

That is not true at all. The store does not have to sell you it at that price. Just because I put a sticker that says $5.99 on a Lamborghini does not mean the dealership has to sell it to me for that price.

That is NOT a bait and switch.

There is no principle in this. They goofed, you are WRONG for trying to capitalize on an honest mistake.

Manager was right there but I didn't ask him, I just said screw it.

If I want to carry a .22 for snakeshot then that is just what I'll carry. Sometimes I want a gun I can shoot small game and snakes with at the same time.

Is there a "within reason" part to it all?

$2 is obviously "within reason" for me but not for you. No there is no such law.

Its not "bait and switch", nor is it illegal, however it is a POOR BUSINESS PRACTICE. They should have said "Well, this is your lucky day. Its currently priced at $9.99, however we'll let you have it for the $7.99 its labeled at". That would have made you feel good and they still would have made a profit. Instead, for the sake of $2, they very well could have lost out on the sale of thousands of dollars of rifles, pistols, ammo, etc. I've done alot of business with them and have always had a good experience, however, almost all my business has been with Colby or Patrick and they have always been great to deal with. Maybe you just got the "new" guy?
