    No Primer Dent

Never have had this happen. Background: 45 ACP handloaded (have been doing this for several years, never an issue save for one squib load when I first started)

PMC brass, WLP primer, HP38 powder (5 grains), Rainier 200 grain plated bullet.

Pulled the trigger in the XD, nothing but a click. Hmm. Clear weapon, inspect round, nary a mark on the primer.

Well, the striker channel is gooey again I think. Nope. Dry fired a pencil, out it flies. Reloaded the mag, racked the slide, "click" Same thing. Not even a scratch on the primer.

    Loaded a different round, BOOM.

Put the round in the 1911, "click" Again not even a mark on the primer.

Sadly, I chucked it. Cannot pull it apart and see what gives.

Anyone have a similar experience ever?

Without seeing it, it sounds like you seated the primer too deep.

Actually, the reality is the primer was a millicimit too high. Just barely though, I could just catch it with my fingernail.

Sure as hell wish I had not tossed it.

If the primer was seated properly, then the only other thing I can come up with would be that you somehow had an abnormally short case that resulted in excessive headspace. Since the .45 ACP headspaces on the case mouth, a short case could put the primer too far forward in the chamber resulting in the firing pin/striker not being able to reach it.

Any chance you could have loaded up a .45GAP case?

Holy cow. Had not thought about that possibility. Yes, It is entirely possible. And that would surely explain it.

Find that round if at all possible.
I load the GAP cases for use in a 625 with moon clips. Shorter OAL goes into the cylinder easier.

it probably a 45 GAP case so it seats to deep in the chamber and the firing pin cant reach it

                    People actually shoot .45 GAP?

I was finding it for awhile mixed with my .45ACP range pickups. Haven't seen any for a long time.

If it makes it past my sorting by headstamp I generally catch it at the flare/charging step on my turret press.
