    New Gun Owner

I've been wanting to buy a gun for awhile now. I would rent different guns just for fun.

Finally, the other day my wife says, "You should buy a gun before it becomes illegal."

I finally have a Glock 21 ready to pick up in 9 days.

Tonight, I'm bring my wife to the range to rent and shoot a Glock 9mm (17 or 19 or smaller) to see which works with her.

I'm starting with Glocks systems for now and see where it takes us.

      Welcome.

Put her hands on quite a few different ones and rent several.
Go to a range that rents for one price, not one rental fee per gun.

There is a thread in the Ladies Forum talking about how to let your wife pick her own gun.

      In before the Glock Haters.

congrats man! show the misses a revolver while youre there. My lady seems to love her GP100 in 357 and her Ruger Vaquero in 45LC. Shes a great shot with both of those.
She hates semi autos for some reason. She says they feel like toy guns.

Welcome to CalGuns. There is a lot of great information and help to be found here.

I got back into shooting a couple of years ago. Previously I just shot rifles. My first handgun was a Glock. I knew nothing of handguns and just went with name recognition.

It worked for me. I have a few now . I like that they are simple to clean, they are reliable, and they just work.

I second the suggestion to read the sticky in the ladies forum about getting a gun for your wife/girlfriend. It is important that she chooses. Have her try others besides Glocks. Often, all metal guns have less felt recoil because the heavier weight helps to absorb the recoil.

I know of a few women who prefer a .45 over 9mm because the .45 is a lower velocity round so its recoil is more of a push which some find less bothersome than the snappiness of a 9mm that often causes the barrel to flip up more.

Depending on where you live, your wife can attend a Women on Target (WOT) sponsored by CalGuns (just ask about it in the Ladies section) where she will learn more about shooting and can usually try out various handguns.

Some ranges have Women's shooting classes. The range I go to has a series of women's pistol classes with each one costing $20. They are very popular and fill up quickly.

              Welcome to the gun world.
Anyone can look around and see the damage to the state and country inflicted by bad politicians.

A vote is clearly much more dangerous than a gun.

Why advocate restrictions on one right (voting) without comparable restrictions on another (self defense) (or, why not say 'Be a U.S. citizen' as the requirement for CCW)?

welcome aboard, glad to have your whole family here.

please tell your wife, I think she has made a great decision, whether it's someone's gut instinct or they looked at the facts, true statistics and carefully studying history.

you'll see it's better to have things like firearms and fire extinguisher handy and not need them,
then to need them and not have them.

even in our own countries history things like drinking some alcohol for the private ownership of gold have been banned for the general public, when logically that doesn't make sense.

I also think starting with Glocks is a good way to go, for several reasons.

Practice practice practice. Shooting a handgun accurately is a lot harder than it looks!
It was just an old plywood boat, with a '75 Johnson, with electric choke. A young boy, two hands on the wheel, I can't replace the way it made me feel.

                              Nice!

Get into an NRA first steps class, or find an experienced shooter to give you some pointers.

                              And remember, safety first!!!!

                              Good luck.
