Cash only if face to face. There is no reason for anything else. Any buyer claiming otherwise can take a hike.

@tonyxcom, I am with you on the disclaimer about failed DROS, etc. I don't like wasting time and try to weed out the tire kickers. Then I get PM's saying I have too many "funny" requirements and that they are serious buyers... I have been led on for weeks, too, only to be asked if my price is firm after a little over 3 weeks of coordinating a time to meet. What a joke!!!

Normally Id say cash only but Im asking $2700 and the first jackass who was interested led me on for three weeks before I tried to move on but my other interested parties had since moved on.
$2700 is not a lot of money. Demand cash with confidence. If the buyer is legit and has the money, then it shouldn't be a big deal to bring cash. And you're meeting IN a gun store....the buyer should have confidence you're not looking to rob him or anything.

I've done cash deals on vehicles and stuff for ALOT more than that.

I'd rather lose out on a deal, then get screwed and lose my merchandise.

Funny thing I did on Craigslist a couple of weeks ago.

I had posted my Apple Watch for sale. I listed that my price was FIRM and not to waste my time with low ball offers. But its Craigslist right so the low balls kept coming.

I had 3 or 4 guys lowball me at $300 and so I would say something like "yeah I really just want this gone, so Ok, $300 but today only. What is your name and number so we can work out the details".

I would then give buyer A's number to buyer B and buyer C's number to buyer D.

What I wouldn't give to be able to listen to those calls or read those texts.

One other time I was meeting someone from Craigslist to sell a monopod. After over a week of him trying to convince me to meet him where he lives in Oakland I finally agree to meet him in Dublin on my way back from a trip to SoCal. I had brought the monopod with me just in case.

Anyway, so I am finally face to face with this guy and he is looking over the monopod (and its mint too) and he pulls out 50 from his hoodie pocket and asks if I would take that much. I say "$75 like the ad said. You had nearly two weeks to try and negotiate." he then pulls out another $10 from another pocket. "how about 60 then"

I said "You better reach in all your fudging pockets and find $75 or give me my hits back, I'm here, you're here do you want it or not"

              "Dang man, ok"

If they can't hand you cash, say no. Personally, holds are just as bad, can & will eventually cost you a sale. Many people run around making deals & asking people to hold stuff. I don't hold anything, not a gun, not a car, nothing.

If someone really wants something, they'll be willing to make an effort to get it. That includes getting off the couch & making it happen. I have no problem saying no, you shouldn't either.

Do a face to face transaction at your FFL for CASH. If you are going to ship the gun, ONLY ship from your FFL to the buyers FFL. In that situation, take only a "Federal Funds Wire transfer". Do not accept a "bank wire", ONLY a Federal Funds wire transfer. It will cost up to $40 for the sender but it is a fool proof SAME DAY transfer of verified funds that can not be initiated without the cash in the buyers bank account, and once sent to you, it can not be clawed back for any reason.

Additionally, it gives the buyer a verified (by the banking system) seller to send money to. Failure to complete the transaction constitutes a federal crime and the seller, sellers bank account and all the sellers information (address, social security number etc... is already identified by police in an investigation.

Any seller not willing to accept a Federal Funds wire is hiding something. Anyone saying they dont want to give their bank information out to make a sale is a fool. You give the same information out every time you hand someone a personal check.

If you are worried about the Cashiers Check or Money Order being counterfeit then do what I did when I sold a my high end car a few years back.

Meet the buyer at their bank and have them right in front of you issue you a cashiers check payable to you, unless he has the funds in his account available and cleared he won't be able to get one.

Then deposit the check immediately after you meet at the FFL or before and you will be covered. Hell you could cash it at his bank right on the spot if you are really worried. If that's the case make him withdraw the amount in cash and be done with it.
