Challenge AR500 Targets?

Thinking about getting one of their IPSC "A" Zone targets on a stand for a national forest trip next month, and was curious if anyone had experience with their targets, and could vouch for their quality.

edit: Should mention that this will be setup at 7-25 yards for handguns and 100-200 yards for ARs, AKs, a Mosin, and maybe a .30-06.

I have only bought from shootsteel.com and never had a problem as long as its AR500 steel it is good to go .

Here's a couple things that concern me, but might not be a problem for your use -

1. The hanger that holds the target is specifically made for what they sell because of the location of the holes. You will have to buy any replacement targets from them or have something custom cut. Going with a stand that has a single mounting point is more versatile and opens up the opportunity to use anything on the market that has the same size hole (generally 1/2").

2. It's hard to tell how strong something is from photos, but I would be a little worried about a misplaced shot destroying the pivoting mechanism. This is especially so when you start shooting rifle calibers at it.

If you are open to other suggestions I'll be happy to post a few. What are your requirements?

Basically, I want something that can hold up to a couple thousand rounds getting thrown downrange at it over a week and half. I'd prefer something that has a stand over something that's working off chains that I'd have to build a stand for.

Since you are going to be slinging rifle rounds at it, I would keep to a wooden or easily replaceable upright if you go that direction. Always keep this in mind when you are buying or making stands - anything that can be shot, will be shot. You either buy or build as strong as possible that resists the impact, or you buy or build something that absorbs the impact and is easy/cheap to replace.

That looks just about perfect, actually. I like how you can set it at angle to use close up. Probably would have to put it up on the berm a couple feet to make for a good handgun target, but using it as a handgun target is more of an afterthought, really.

I can tell you that these hold up very well and you won't have to screw with 2x4's...but some people like 2x4's cause you can adjust the height however you want.
