    Vintage Firearm Restoration

Hello Calguns members. I just joined and this is my first post.

My first question is, what forum should I post questions in concerning advice about restoring an old firearm? I didn't see a forum listed that specifically addressed this. Perhaps "Gunsmithing" forum?

The story is that I was given an old obviously neglected rifle. My first impression was that it was a throw-away arcade pea shooter that I had little interest in. I finally got around to doing some research and learned that it is a Remington Model 12C Target .22 manufactured in 1933 and definitely worth an attempt at reviving.

The rifle has surface rusting which I'd like to address first, but my understanding is that a too aggressive cleaning may actually degrade the value by damaging the patina. Any advice?

    Welcome to Calguns!

You might check in the C&R forum, lot's of guys fixing up very old guns in there. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/f...splay.php?f=84

I would try and stop the surface rust from spreading but maybe not remove it, be sure the bore and the action are clean and lubed and just enjoy it. The C&R folks will have some good advice.

Check in the rimfire forum if you have any questions about function, spare parts etc. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/f...play.php?f=165

Be sure and post some pics so we can check it out

What he said^^^^^ Lots good advice on that forum. Post some pictures there and don't work on it until you run your ideas by a few guys.

Thank you, that's what I'll do.
I'm trying to figure out uploading images. I started a photobucket account and loaded the images. Do I just copy and past the URL of the image? and if so, is the full or thumb image preferred?

Copy the link from photobucket, then, look at the box you type in to post. There is a button in the first row directly above the text box that is yellowish and has mountains and a sun in it, hit that button, and a box will open for the url of the image. Delete the http that's there and past the link to your photobuket image.

Here is a post I made a while back on sharing images - it will be similar for the full blown photobucket.

            **********************************

            tinypic.com

No account needed, no sign up or login needed. They are owned by photobucket.

you will be asked to enter a CAPTCHA every two pics uploaded. I keep hitting refresh on the CAPCTHA until I get an easy one - I don't like when they make you watch a video or whatever for the captcha code. Anyhow, tinypic is quick and easy once you get the hang of it.

If you have not resized your images before uploading them to tinypic, use the 1024 x 768 option for 'resize'.

            STEP 1

            STEP 2

            STEP 3
