    Sportsman's Guide "Business Decision"

Just wanted to pass on today's experience with Sportsman's Guide.

Ordered a few items as a "got a new gun gift" for a friend in Oregon. Odds & ends, nothing exciting and I really didn't even pay attention to whether the items are OK to ship to CA, why bother since they're going to OR. Completed the order, OR shipping address, check off the "it's a gift box" and that's that.

One hr later I get the "these are restricted" bounce back. Check the catalog and find they're OK for OR, not for CA of course. Figure it's a computer setting issue and call them this AM.

I'm informed by the Customer Rep that although the items are legal in OR and there's no law restricting me from ordering (of course) but that Sportsman's Guide has made a "business decision" to not allow orders from a CA address on anything restricted in CA regardless of where it's being shipped.

So in addition to all sorts of "not really illegal but we restrict anyway" items to CA, you also can not send those "not really illegal but we restrict anyway" items to another state.

I told them to remove me from their e - mail & catalog mailing list (they did).

You should have let them keep sending you catalogs so that it would cost them even more money for not doing business w/ California

I get at least 1 catalog a week from these guys, and I've done a couple orders from them. I'm gonna tell them to take me off their list.

They don't want my business, I'll take it elsewhere.

I strongly advise calgunners to do the same. If it doesn't hurt them to shut us out, why should they care?

Vote for pro-gun candidates, or lose your rights, and the rights of future generations. That's it. The end.

        Your not the only one.

My father and I had been great customers for several years. He's an active hunter and always purchased necassary gear from them with no issues. About a year ago he was denied purchase. Made a few calls and still would not able to complete his purchase. Its was a rifle scope, magnum ammo and a hunters back pack.

We stopped doing business with them along with his hunting buddies in Montana, North Carolina and Colorado.

        They are a strange company.

I've got a few scopes and other stuff from them with no problem. But than I was denied ammo purchase even though shipping address wasn't San Francisco but San Bruno. After several e-mails I just said ef it and ordered form J&G.
BTW CheaperThanDirt also refused to ship to San Bruno.

I gave up on Sportsman's Guide and have refused to buy from them for quite a while. There are other sources out there that will treat legal gun owners with respect.
