Police described the suspects as two men in their early 20s.

Well, that narrows it right down. Shouldn't be too hard to find a couple guys matching that description. Don't know if this is worthless reporting or worthless police work.

On the news earlier it said the homeowner grabbed his shotgun but wasn't able to return fire because it wasn't loaded.

This proves two things, imho. The sight of a shotgun or any gun is not a deterrent. Also, it is necessary to keep your home defense weapon loaded with one in the chamber. Under pressure, what are the chances one forgets to load the chamber?

Hope the guy has a speedy recovery without complication. Also hope they catch the scumbags.

Who knows? Could have been Asians their gangs are big on home invasions but usually prey on their own kind. If homeowner did use a shotgun I wonder if it was loaded with birdshot? Even so at close range should have done a lot of damage. Also could have been a 410 for all we know.
