What would you rather have?

As I look through my safe I see some of the well-known brands including a Kimber, Colt, Glock, Howa, S&W, etc. but today I'm DROSing a used HiPoint carbine to sit alongside my Charter Undercover, my NAA .22 LR, and my SKS. It got me thinking - what direction is my collection going?

What would you rather have? A bunch of moderately priced and/or cheap (yet arguably sufficient quality) guns, or a select few mega-expensive guns?

What about a modest sized collection of best bang for your buck guns and tons of ammo.

I've got several guns that were not particularly "high-end" originally, but that fetch good prices now. A couple examples are a S&W Model 58, an H&R Sportsman 999, old model Blackhawks and Single-Sixes, a stock Colt Series 70 1911 from 1972, etc.

Seems like most people don't fit any of the 3 categories, and are probably enthusiasts not collectors.

From observations over a couple of years my impression is that most people have (or want) a couple of prize pieces, own several utilitarian pieces (daily drivers if you will) and maybe have 1 or 2 'novelty' pieces of some type.

So I vote 'D' A variety of decent stuff I like to use and a few special pieces.

No doubt there are several 6 & 7 figure collections here.

And it's obvious there are a few hoarders here who will buy anything and everything they can get their hands on, 'just because' ... you know who you are

I would like to have a big collection of all guns expensive and cheap. As of right now I just have a little of cheap and a little of not so cheap but not quite expensive.

Next rifle will be Scar 17...

How bout small collection of relatively cheap but uber-dependable guns that definitely get the job done?

It seems to me that people start off having a big collection of cheap and high end guns to try out different guns. Then as their collection exceeds space or budget, they begin to pare it down, usually keeping their high end stuff.

Buy what speaks to you. But buy quality. Buying cheap junk usually turns out to just be a waste of money.
