Anyone going, Matt Burkett 1 day Basic Practical class at Richmond?

I'm thinking about it. I just haven't sent in my payment. Is the class filling up already? Don't know whether to bring my production, limited, or open pistol, though...

Does he say how many rounds to bring?

Just checked, no, X number of slots left in class, warning yet. The advance class is filling up only 3 slots left in that. He doesn't say the number of rounds to bring for this class. But for a different, one day class he lists 400 rounds.

Dudes! If you are into comeptitive shoting, I highly recommend it! It is awsome. If you are into defensive shooting, its totally different stuff and you might find it too "gamy"

He is a great guy and teacher. I took his 2 day class back in October and still remembering and learning from the class. It's just I didn't know anything about compteition and didn't understand what was talked about. So, I am taking advance class in April. really looking forward to for honing my skill more

Right now I don't do any hangun competitions, just high power competition. But I've been dying to try out IDPA or IPSC. If I renew my Jackson ARms membership, I can go shooting whenever I want for another year. But I could learn a lot and have fun taking the class.

How many people were in the class you took, Rikka?

I've shot both IPSC and IDPA and both have their merits. Bottom line, both are lots of fun! Nothing like running around with a loaded pistol and hosing down paper and steel targets! Being that you are safe and responsible, of course!

Now, I'm sort of hooked on 3-gun. Lots of targets, 3 different weapon disciplines (pistol, rifle, and shotgun), and loads of ammo to carry!

I just want to take the class because I've never formally taken a class from a Grandmaster like Matt and want to get back to basics. I've caught some bad habits that need to be broken.

My friend took that October class with Matt and his pistol went down. I lent him my Glock 35 and he hasn't given it back!

Chikenfried ooooh, tough choice. If you really are serious about competing, I'd take class. Because indoor range like Jackson which you basical shootg one target from stationaly position can not cover all you do in the competition. Of course, its a good practice and I sitll go indoor to concentrate on fundamentals and do lots of good groupings.

But I discovered I have couple of bad habits which are soooooooooooooo integrated in my skills and very difficult to get rid of. Its much easy to do right first than get rid of bad habits later.

There are about 12 people. after class, I changed stance, grip, gun I shoot and everything even though I had taken at lesat 4 classes alteady that time.

Richmond range has practice on every sat. If you are member of Richimond range, $5. They will put up lots of IPSC target and you'd shoot from I think 10 yards. You can do doubles on three targets, pull from holster etc. If there aren't much people I think they will let you move and shoot too. That's an option.

shooterx10 oh yeah, its fun for sure. Good for you can manage 3 guns and have budget to do so! As I said, Matt Rocks

Oh my god! Someobdy said thank you to me regarding shooting. Whoa!

I have been always the one whom people helps in shooting. Letting me shoot thier guns to helping me reloading. SO I am so glad I can reciprocate.

I've been thinking about going to this class myself. What can I expect for my $195

I did two day and do not know what would be done in 1 day. But what I did was

Proper stance Matt has a very intersting but totally make sence stance/grip. Its sorta isosalite (sp?) but left arm extended more than right.

Proer grip left thumb straight forward, both thumbs meet and can consistantly have same grip every time

Draw efficent and fast draw

equipment choices

Fundamentals of shooting while moving - how to walk in many direction with steday aim

how to kneel, sprawl, sight pictures triger control etc etc ...

Thats about I can come up with. It is for competition, not for defensive shooting.

I was over at the Yahoo! Groups boards today and the person helping to put on the Matt Burkett class states that there is ONE slot left for the 2-day advanced class. Also, there are now two slots left for the Basics class on Friday.

Gotta dust off the reloading press and start loading up at least a case of ammo!
