I beg to differ... I don't see how this is even academically interesting, they pulled him over for no plate, he had a DMV printout but at that point they wanted to check his DL. I'm guessing he refused since they had to cuff him and pull it from his pocket, but that really does not matter, they could easily articulate reasonable detention at that point. Then they find he has FOUR warrants... Then they apparently ASK the cops to open the trunk to get a wheelchair and the rifle case is in plain view. Loaded gun check results in.... Sounds like the guy left out a lot of important information (kind of like how a "friend" of mine does to me when her life is "falling apart").
This isn't a worthy enough case for us to use for 2A rights.

The item would have to be within his reach in that case, which the trunk was not. Unless they were towing the vehicle (which they probably would if one occupant was going to jail and the other was in a wheelchair) in which case they would "inventory" it.
In any case they allowed the cops to look in the trunk...I do not provide legal services or practice law (yet).
