Reno gunshow question
Thinking of going to the reno show, however was wondering, lets say i find a gun i want to purchase from say a private seller at the show, but the gun is not on the aproved DOJ list example colt anaconda, could i in theory do the transfer PPT at the show through say contra costa collectibles who always go up to the show, have them bring the gun back into California and then dros the gun from there on, is this legal to do. Or is there an alternative which is legal.

I don't believe that's legal as that's a straw purchase.
Per Wikipedia: Under United States federal gun laws, a straw purchase is any purchase from a dealer holding a Federal Firearms License where the buyer conducting the transaction is not the "actual purchaser", but is acting as a proxy for another person. Yes JDay thats what im trying to convey sorry if any one is missunderstood, if im going to go to an out of state gunshow i would want to be able to buy a gun that i could only purchase in california via private party as they would not be on the list, and given that guns that are not on the list here in cali, tend to sell like hot cakes, i would be looking for such a gun at an out of state gun show were there probably not so much desired because they are much easyier for some one to obtain if they are living in a gun friendly state.
I would pay the private seller for the gun at the show but would need a california FFL dealer to bring the gun back into the state for dros process and transfer if this is legal to do.
Now i know of some FFL dealers from cali that go there and look for collectible guns to bring back into california for sale to the public or at least i assume thats what they are doing.Last edited by battleship; 11-22-2008, 6:27 PM.Comment

The transaction you are describing is not exempt from the safe handgun roster restrictions. It can't be processed as a PPT by the Dealer since the seller wouldn't have a California driver's license.
Also, the seller would have to ship the handgun to your FFL anyway, since FFL's can't acquire or transfer modern firearms while outside of the State where their licensed premises is located. So the handgun would need to be on the roster or exempt from the roster for the Dealer to be able to transfer it to you.__________________
