BELL GARDENS - The Bell Gardens Police Department will conduct its first-ever "Gun Buy Back" program on Saturday, designed to remove firearms from the city.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Bell Gardens residents can bring unwanted firearms to St. Gertrude's Church, 7025 Garfield Ave., and exchange each weapon for $75, said Bell Gardens police Lt. Jeff Travis.

"With this program, we hope to reduce the amount of gun-related violence on the streets of Bell Gardens, and ... prevent idle firearms from being accessible to children -- or subject to theft," Travis said.

People should transport the unloaded weapons in the trunk of their vehicle, separate from any ammunition that they also want to surrender, Travis said. The ammunition will be destroyed.

A police officer will unload the firearms from the vehicle. Police officers will issue a receipt and assist residents fill out a state Department of Justice transfer form, which is required, Travis said.


I guess this only to disarm residents of legal guns instead of getting illegal ones off the streets. Someone might want to take a ride and see whats for sale.

I have noticed that now at buybacks they seem to want ID, the recent El Monte one did, I refused to give them the gun.

They want to see if it's been stolen and then run it through ballistics to see if you've used it in a crime and then POP YOU! I think they stopped doing these things "no questions asked" a while ago.
