San Jose gun shop for PPT?

I'm going to do a PPT in San Jose with a (non gun owning) friend. He lives near Blossom Hill and Almaden Expressway. We would likely do the transfer on a Saturday afternoon which is obviously not an ideal time. He will also need to get his FSC.

It looks like there are a few that are pretty close including The Gun Exchange (lots of bad google reviews), Mil-Spec Armory, and Sportsmen's Supply. Is there any reason to pick one or the other? Or maybe go a little further?
Check back later for a witty comment.

I would call before you go down to any shop to make sure you they don't pull some BS on you saying they do them on certain days and times only.

If it was me I would avoid Sportsman Supply they are dicks and might try to charge extra fees and not advertise them that they are store/dealer fees and that is the going rate. I know they pull this trick on the DROS purchase of new gun owners oh but they have the small sign high up to get away with it. Plus it better not be a OLL rifle they won't touch them.

Mil Spec seems ok only been their a few times they didn't have much selection.

As for the Gun Exchange they are a bunch of clowns who give you the run around and waste your time I don't want to imagine if came in and told them it's for a PPT.

Metal Dog Tactical on 1st street has always been great to me

Imbert & Smithers in Redwood City is solid. Just North of SJ.

You'll have to schedule an appointment, but Mount Pleasant Arms is great.

Although they received some grief of late on this board, I've always been happy with Reed's in Santa Clara. Quick and zero BS.

Reeds, metal dog tactical, and mt pleasant arms. Avoid everything else unless you want to waste time and money.

" San Jose gun trader " just opened a brand new brick and mortar store.

they had been an amazing home based FFL up to recently when they made the move.

I've had such a great experience, got sweet deals and their amazing customer service I would recommend checking them out & they could be right down the street from you.

they are also a vendor here in the calguns marketplace and list their current inventory along with all their contact info, website, phone numbers, etc.

I'm sure you can find him using the search here.

+1 for MPA. I like doing business with Peter.
I'm not a fan of Imbert & Smithers, but that's just me. Others may have had great experiences.
Reeds is OK. I feel pretty neutral about them.

+2 for San Jose Gun Trader. I've used them twice when they were home based and no complaints so far. Husband and Wife team.

SJ Gun Exchange isn't an FFL unless they got it back recently.
You've got plenty of options in the area, look 'em up to check hours, some are by appointment, a couple are jerk-offs with regards to when and what they'll allow for a PPT.

I haven't been to gun exchange in a while, but I haven't heard any news of them losing it...again. Last time IIRC was 6-8 years ago.

Is there a link or a story you can relate to a recent revocation?
                          Sorry, not sorry.

I know they had it when I was in there like 4 years ago and lost it shortly after and according to the ATF there's no FFL with that name or on that street as of May.

edit: Looking through the listings for their address, seems they lost it sometime between March 2013 and June 2013.

Thanks for the heads up. It seems they have had lots of issues with that over the years.
