Well, I had a hunch, but I figured that intelligence would prevail. Guess not.
Couple of weeks ago, I went to the good people over at Henderson Defense. I bought one of their awesome certified WASR's. I was damn lucky to get my hands on it.
Anyway, I have been working with this Pawn Shop FFL dealer for two guns now. They seem to be highly intelligent people. I had no worries that they would know the law. I had Henderson ship the rifle. Called today and it arrived. I was asked, "is this rifle legal". To which I replied, yes, it has a raddlock installed therefore the <10 rd. magazine is not removable without a tool. They disagreed and said it was a AW.
I went on to say, Henderson Defense ships hundreds of these rifles to California. I asked politely, can you contact the DOJ and confirm the legality of the weapon. The FFL "dealer" told me that the DOJ was in the shop "as a matter of fact today" and he inspected the rifle and said it was an AW.
I asked for the Agents info so I could call him and find out why he feels it was an AW, then to advise the agent of the LAW that makes it a totally California legal rifle. The dealer replied with, I don't know his name.
Finally, he laid down the law, he refuses to DROS the weapon and he is sending it back. I guess I feel somewhat responsible for their ignorance of the law and asked if I could pay for the shipping back. (kinda stupid on my part hugh?) He told me he would be happy if I did.
What say you? My fault? Lesson Learned? Should I walk into the pawn shop tomorrow, pay for the return ship? Bring them a copy of the flowchart? Tell them please ship my rifle carefully and go F&$k them selfs?
Did I mention I even called the FFL Dealer the minute I bought it (from Henderson) and gave them the model and modifications? They said "no problem!"
