    Recommendations for gun magazines

I'm looking to buy some or even subscribe to gun magazines so I can keep them at home or work and read them whenever. Any recommendations?

Do you belong to the NRA? You can subscribe to a couple when you join.

Join NRA, American Rifleman is good. Gun Tests is good too, no ads. You can read up on all the things unavailable to Califorians.

They are a total waste of time and full of mis-information. Although American Handgunner is pretty good for the pistol shooter. Go to www.accurateshooter.com for good rifle information.

For pretty pictures, Recoil. For info, American Rifleman.

I'm always looking for old issues of 'Soldier of Fortune'. Cool, time traveling type stuff.

I used to subscribe to Handguns and a couple of others but they were basically advertising pieces for the usual suspects (Para and Kimber). I recall one of the Paras got "Handgun of the year" three years running. I wrote the editor and told him that for the sake of honesty, the award should be named "Para of the Year" since nobody else is considered.

Some of the articles are interesting, don't take them too seriously.

I read American Handgunner - only comes out every other month or so, but good stuff. As always, some of the reviews are for products that have ads -- but a lot of other good info in the columns.

Gun Tests is OK but they try to get a million miles of conclusions out of a gallon of test data. I remember I had a couple of issues. In one, they tested some .38 snubs and found the Charter Arms was the "best buy" and they just raved about it.

In another issue, they tested revos and the Charter Arms piece had a problem and broke and they trashed the company... it's the SAME company that made the best snub in the world last month.

Their info isn't necessarily wrong, but testing one sample is a single data point, not the universal truth of guns.

Currently American Handgunner, Guns and American Rifleman. Thinking of dropping the first 2 as anything they review or advertise I can't buy in CA.

Thumb through them on the rack and read what interests you as most are not worth the purchase price.
