Why is it anytime someone puts a WTB in any forum or classifieds a potential seller thinks Alright!, i can retire on what i am going to get for this item, whether its a gun,car or anything? Its kinda stupid and annoying.

Preying on other gun owners? I think the only ones I see doing that are the retiree ammo scalpers that have their lawn chairs permanently propped up in the sports section of Walmart. People are just asking what they think their gun is worth, they aren't forcing you to buy it at the price they are asking.Comment

Let me see if I get this right.
You put a WTB ad in the Marketplace and some citizen makes you an outrageous proposal for what you are looking for and you feel wronged in some way.

It's not that it has already been posted, it's that a new thread is started almost weekly.
And I'm having fun with you anyway. Unlike most folks hereabouts, I actually enjoy the threads where people whine about prices in the Marketplace. Endlessly entertaining (and I do mean endless, because, as I said, there's a new thread every week).

One immediate problem I see is that the WTB ads are more often than not of very poor quality. Show us your example OP.
I'm thinking most are "Hey looking for big gun, goes pow, maybe tiger stripes too."
So with a super generic hook thrown, you're going to catch a lot of crap.
WTB ads should be, just as any other ad placed, well thought out and as specific as you actually want. They should mandatory include LOCATION in the title (actually as much info you can get in the title) and for crying out loud give a PRICE RANGE.
I'm always looking for Ruger 22/45. I'm also looking for it in the $200-275 range, if I announce this ahead of time, sellers who want $700 for their precious "off roster" diamond gun can avoid wasting both our times.Stand up and be counted, or lay down and be mounted... -Mac

First world problem...buyers want to minimize the cost, sellers wish to maximize it. No different than buying a car, home, or pretty much anything else.
Preying??? If you don't like the price, negotiate and/or move on. If you are indeed asking too much, you'll have no responses and eventually keep the item or lower the price. I guarantee if you are the seller, you'll act diametrically different than the buyer. Again, think about housing and cars.
Once we appoint a price-control czar, the problem will dissapper.
