    Mech Tech Carbine Conversion Unit

Can someone tell me if this conversion is legal or can be made to be legal in CA?

I don't know about a glock, but a 1911 yes provided you turn the magazine release into a bullet button.

I was considering a Mech tech upper for my 1911, but I decided it was a little too hokey for my taste. I'm saving up for an Auto Ordnance tommy when I move out of CA.

    edit:

I just watched the 1911 video, that guy's rant in the last one minute of the video was pretty hilarious!

Based on ATF's current opinion, it would appear that once you converted it to a rifle (with a BB, and 30" OAL in CA, as to not create an unregistered AW), you could not revert back to a pistol legally. That is because, once you put the stock on it, it forever becomes a rifle, and if you then go below 16"barrel/26"OAL, you have created an SBR. That is a firearm less than 16"/26" made from a rifle.

I emailed Mech Tech to see if they had any documention showing that their conversion unit was OK to go from converted rifle back to pistol, but they never responded.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

In CA, you need to install a magazine lock and use 10 round or less magazines, if you take your pistol and make it into a rifle using the Mech Tech.

A forum member, made a 1911 Mech Tech awhile back.
Magazine lock = grind down magazine release until you could not depress it without using a tool.

Already have an AR. I agree it's not worth it to modify a pistol and especially a nice 1911 to do this. I have a Glock 20 10mm and if it was an easy-on, easy-off conversion, it would be a cool thing to have.

Use the search button, it has been discussed here many times. I ask the same question about a couple of months ago. I used the seaech button and found what I was looking for.
