We used padlocks for our trip to Africa. All went well.
We also used Alum cases.
Ours came with 4 pieces of foam. Two for each side of the case. We took out one on each side and replaced it with clothes allowing us more in our other checked in bag. This allowed for candy and things to leave in Africa for the tracker/staff and room for stuff we bought to bring home to be in the other checked bag.
Ammo must be in a separate TSA locked container(we used Pelican boxes) in your checked in bag. After we got to Africa we had to take out the ammo box and it went separate on some flights(go figure not all) at no extra charge.
Do not put ammo in with the firearms.
This is what I found for traveling to Africa.
