    30 days between handgun purchase?

Hello, I am new to this forum and I want to thank everyone for all the great info you provide.

I have a quick question. If I purchase a handgun from a private party (in socal), I understand that I do NOT have to wait 30 days between purchases. Is that correct? I know I have to wait 30 days if I purchase a new handgun from a retail gun dealer.

        except in l.a. county

if you buy new, used, consignment, or ppt in l.a. county, you have to wait the 30 days.

There is NO 30 days between PPT sales. You can do 1 a day if you want. You still have the 10 wait for each one.Only new handguns from a dealer apply the 30 days between.

Just to be clear, a gun coming from a "private party" outside of CA (i.e. the handgun is shipped in) does not make it a private party transfer. This type of transfer is subject to the 30 day requirement.

BUT if that "Used" gun is under consignment, that still sticks you with a 30 day wait even though its "Used"

                  True +1

Consider PPT more in term of Face to Face here in California, both people have to be there at the same time to make it fall under the PPT rules here. Anything mailed is no longer PPT here, and subject to the 1/30 rule

I know you supposedly can do a split PPT, but I have never seen one done and wouldn't be surprised if you have had a hard time finding a FFL who knows or would actually do one.

Are you sure about that? I'm pretty sure consignments are exempt from the 1/30 rule, but I do know you pay sales tax on them.

Thats what i just went through today... so, according to Turners of pasadena...
                      Yes.

Both guns were used... the one i got at Oak Tree (5 days ago) and the used one i got at Turners (Today) but since they were in their "inventory" it counted..

or so i was told that... would love to not have to wait 25 days to start my 10 day

Handgun PPT's buyer and seller have to be CA.res.If you are going to buy out of state it would be a dealer transfer and the handgun would have to be on the approved list, and requires the 30 day period.

The 30 days between starts the day the DROS is ran.It is a good idea to wait one more day to be safe.31 days
