    Steele Peak Experience

Ended up at Steele Peak for a Memorial Day shoot (not the place I wanted btw). First off and most importantly, the place is a MESS. Shotgun hulls, rusted casings, trash, left over 2x4s, clay, ETC. I wouldn't mind coming back for a clean up and some shooting with a few cal gunners. Anyways, we didn't go past the hill. Had a steel IPSC target 85 yards away and some some gongs set up around 10-15 yards. The spot isn't too shabby for being close to the first hill.

Moving on to the bad parts. People were shooting at our IPSC target without asking us. This included groups further away on our left side meaning shots were hitting steel from a sidewards angle... I swore a round was going to ricochet and hit a group to our right. This was annoying as we were trying to check where our shots were hitting or if it was our shots hitting the target. Secondly, a new group came in and replaced the people on our right side. While everyone was shooting, these guys went out to change their targets. I had to tell them to give people around them a heads up so they don't end up getting hit by ricochet or a really lousy shot.

Overall experience was okay. I wouldn't come here on a holiday because all the rude people wanting to win a Darwin award come out. But I see the spot having the potential for being a good BLM spot. We just need to keep it clean. It's nice having a spot closer than Barstow.

You let other people shoot your target without permission? Return fire!

Edit: Seriously though, this is why Wrens Ranch exists. Its like 5 minutes from Steele Peake, just south of old town Perris. I go there all the time and almost always have the place entirely to myself

CGSSA regularly hosts clean-ups at Steele Peak and they would love the help that you could provide. If you want to keep our BLM land open, then you saw the state of it currently and we need to keep it cleaner than that or lose it.

Save your own life and move further back. It's the Wild West near the front.

Can't tell you how pissed I'd be if some jackass was shooting my steel or any targets without permission.

            Does Wren's allow rifle?

Yes and no. They allow rifles on a temp 25 yard range as long as no one else is using it for handguns. But they are constructing a 100 yard range that is in the last stages of being completed.

Doing just about anything on Memorial Day is going to be a cluster F. Shooting range is not a place I want to be for that
