    P238 haveing feeding issues

This is a new one for me, so I thought I would ask those who have had the gun longer.

I was adding the P238 to my permit today and I had a feeding issue on 2 occasions. I am thinking it is ammo related because I was using cheap stuff to qualify.

On 2 separate occasions the round was ejected, but in the process of feeding the next round, it flipped over and tried to go in backwards. This of course was impossible, so I got to show off my FS malfunction skills.

The instructor was impressed with my malfunction clearing, but I am now concerned about the prospect of carrying this gun.

Have any of you experienced this?

I haven't had my 238 for long but I've shot a good amount of rounds through it and haven't had a single issue. I've shot mostly Magtech and a bit of Armscor. It has been accurate and reliable for me. I qualified with it for my permit as well, I am carrying regular FMJs for two reasons: reliable feeding and I'd prefer overpenetration to underpenetration.

You didn't mention what ammo you were using.

It was steel cased Tulammo. I know it is not great, but it was what I could find that wasn't a dollar a round. I will run a few boxes of Critical Defense through it before I trust it.

I don't shoot steel cased anymore. If it is a new gun that hasn't been worn in, I really can't say I am totally surprised. If it does it with brass ammo I'd see if it repeats with a different mag.

What ammo were you using? Round Nose? Hollow Point?

If this is going to be your carry, invest on good quality ammo and shoot them to see if the gun has a problem with feeding or whatever. This goes with any new guns whether for fun or HD. After that then you can go cheap and find what will work.

That was my plan for after qualification. I just didn't want to spend a lot for qualifying.

I run Hornady Critical Defense in my P238 and have had no problems. Other hollow point ammo would get the occasional FTF and I believe that that had more to do with it being new and not broken in yet.

I use Hornady Critical Defense in all my EDCs and Home Protection guns.....

I had a couple of stovepipes early on with some cheap round nose ammo but have never had any issues with any hollow point defensive ammo. Never tried any steel cased stuff.

Never. But I have had certain ammo seem to hang up a bit on its way into the chamber.

I would guess that's your problem.

I have had no issues with my P238 running FMJ or defense ammo (BB 90gr+p). I have never run steel case ammo thought the gun.

I run this ammo in my LCP, and it works great. I tried running some through my XDs45 a couple weeks ago and had some feeding issues. I think I am going back to Speer.
