I've used Applied Kinetics in Fullerton. He did some work on my dad's 1911 and my Hi Power. His prices are reasonable and does a great job. Attached is a pic of my Hi Power.

I have used Jim for many projects over the years. He built my 1911 Colt Combat Commander. He has done action jobs on a number of my smith revolver’s. He does everything from custom 1911’s to basic old gun clean up.

Rifles, handguns and shotguns. Yes an all-around smith. Getting up there in years, mid to late 70’s, but still puts in a full day, 5 days a week.

Jim Hoag is a Master Gunsmith - - One of the last of the old breed. Has a small shop in a old industry center in Canoga Park. Does amazing work.

If you do get out to see him, ask him about when he was shooting with Col. Jeff Cooper (the .45 guru) and Jack Weaver (the inventor of the weaver stance) at the original Big Bear shoots.

Google the names and do a bit of interesting reading.

He was one of the pioneers of precision custom fit 1911s. His guns are legendary appearing Micheal Mann movies like Thief (Colt Longslide used by James Caan's character). He's won numerous shooting awards and his guns are sought after by enthusiasts of every creed.

You added 10 years too much. He is late 70's at the most. I just saw him the other day and we had a good long chat.

Anyone who recently been to Hoag's, can you tell me your average turn around time? Last time I went there it was quite a long time before I got my gun back. Hopefully things change a bit...
