Decided to finally "pull the trigger" and will be purchasing my first 9mm in the coming weeks. I spend a lot of time at the range and I'm trying to cut down on my ammo costs (I usually shoot .45 & .40) plus having a solid 9mm in a collection is always a good thing IMO. My question is aimed at Sig owners, what do you like/dislike the most about your Sig(s)? Do you recommend any aftermarket purchases/MODS for Sig's? I've pretty much decided on the P229 and will primarily be using it as a range gun. The fact that it is a solid steel frame and has full length slide guides lends me to believe this firearm will far outlast any of my poly framed pistols and will lend me countless hours/rounds at the range. Thanks for any insight...

Sig owners...

I never thought of myself as a Sig fanboy until I realized that I have more Sigs in my safe than any other type of handgun. They are great quality firearms, and they are great shooters. I have a P226 in .40 , so not quite a P229 in 9mm, but my 40 shoots really nicely and accurate. I can only image the 9mm shooting will allow you to get back on target faster.
The only thing I really changed are the mainsprings to lessen the DA pull on my sigs. They weren't terrible to begin with, but it makes your DA pull very enjoyable.
Some people also get the short reset kit. My 226 already has a short reset trigger, but when I compare it with my P220 which doesn't, it's not *that* different. Still, up to you, but personally I didn't find too much difference for that. -
I have the P229 in 40cal and love it. The only thing I have done is install glow in the dark night sights, god help anyone at the end of that thing down a dark hallway ....

P226s, P229s and P220 have been good to me and no headache so far. I replaced grips for different colors & kinds and couple of bead blasting on the slides for looks. I've been wanting to do the SRT but been on hold for a long time.
Most common modification I've seen here on Calguns are SRT, Action Enhanced, the other SRT and changing Mainspring.Comment

They multiply pretty quickly...
This is about half of my Sig collection. I have been shooting Sigs since 1998. All are bone stock- just the way I like 'em. the older pistols with forged internal parts will often give a much better trigger pull. Remember they are DA/SA so get the right training. And use grease on the rails, not oil.

Sig make good pistols. They are reliable and well thought out design. They are very easy to completely strip down.
The barrel and slide are a little high for my taste, but that is the character of the pistols.
You should upgrade to SRT if you can, and the E2 grip if you have small hand.
Also, most P229s are Aluminum frame and not steel, Some are stainless, but they are hard to find.Comment

As long as you buy a Sig that has the short reset trigger already installed you won't need any aftermarket parts unless you dislike the grips or sights.Dear ISIS, Texas is not known for their gun free zones.

All of my P series pistols are still stock, but I've considered changing grips and getting the Action Enhancement job done. I have both the Short Reset Trigger (P220, P239 9mm) and normal trigger (P226 9mm) I really like the SRT, but the standard trigger is just fine as well. I haven't changed any main springs, but once you've gone through a few hundred rounds the DA trigger pulls are smooth as butter. As mentioned above, I would also spring for night sights if they aren't already included. Enjoy the P229!Comment

Thanks for the greased rail idea...

I have a 229 scorpion in 40 cal.
Bought the Bar-sto conversion barrel so I can shoot 9mm as well.
Was able to fit it myself using a honing stone.
Easily one of my favorite handguns.Comment

As others have mentioned, the P229s have an alloy frame not steel, except for the Stainless Steel version and you don't see it often - and no version of the SS is on roster.
I get to DROS my P229 Enhanced Elite 9mm next week. It is the only free state P229 that is still on the roster
Already includes Night Sights, SRT and E2 grips, and no CA crap.

If you use a 6 o'clock hold they will shoot low. You can buy sights to correct it.
Not a whole lot of aftermarket grips if you like some fancy wood.
If I grip mine like a 1911 my right thumb rests right on the slide stop. Probably my biggest gripe."He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.
You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart.
You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."

Sig-ness
The Sig is my platform. I love the DA/SA trigger.
I started with the SP2022 in 9mm

And I was hooked. Next was the classic P220

Then the P229 in 40 S&W

Liked it so much, I recently added the P239 in 40

Sigs really like to be run wet, keep the rails well greased and they'll give you good service for life.ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕPaul
