    RAW FUD?

So, I'm trying to purchase a RAW weapon from a friend. I was under the impression from the DOJ website all we need to do is put on a BB and then call the DOJ number. So we did.

The woman answering said she's not the current person handling AW and the guy will be out till next week. She said she "used" to be the person handling AW. She claims we can't just put a BB on it and have it de-classified as RAW. What? Is this true? She said we have to have it done by someone with an AW license? Never heard of it.

I'm guessing if this is true there will be some special "fee" attached. Anyway, we are on hold until next week.

It's simply a psl stock rifle. Ideas?

You cant do that. Once a "semi auto rifle identified by name" on the Robebrti-Roos AW list is registered, it can only be sold in state to an FFL who is registered to transact in RAW's or you can sell it out of state to a FFL or it can be passed down inter-generationally within the original registered owners immediate family. You both have committed crimes technically: Your friend for illegally selling/transferring a registered AW and you for illegal possession of one. UNWIND THE TRANSACTION as if it never happened and delete your post here....

Did you check the roster. No FUD.
If its listed by name, model #, no can do.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

Registered assault weapons cannot be transferred in California. There is no legal way to do it.

        Not FUD.

Edit: How can you have been here since 2009 and not understand that?

What is that supposed to mean? You can export it to another country, but only to members of the immediate family? I don't think so.

Basically, there is no legal way to transfer a RAW inside California, not even through inheritance. You are free, of course, to sell it out of state. The recipient's relation to the registered owner is immaterial.

Well, see, here's the thing ...

If it's not a banned-by-name gun, then she's full of ****, because you can de-register a RAW and transfer it.

bam. could have been a not named rifle that the owner just wanted to use a standard mag release on and registered it.

OP says it is a "PSL stocked rifle." Could be a named AK or similar, or something else (maybe a PSL?).

Been there done that, you can de-register as long as its features not names that classified it as an AW. Find the relevant codes, document everything. It's basically not worth unless it's a super rare cool item, definitely not for just an AR

Romak 3 I don't remember seeing that on the list. He has 5 total rifles and the generic response was for all of them. I get the .50 cal but he never even mentioned that. Just the SVD/Romak/PSL. 7.62 x 54 squad gun. Where did you get transfer? I don't see that word in this thread. de-classified as an assault weapon.

                    Stock = standard item

That's what I figured but wanted to be a little more informed before talking to the guy that actually handles it vs the one that "used to".

Well, if the guns are not on the list, you might have some options, as mentioned above. But it certainly is not as simple as installing a magazine lock and you are good to go.

If its banned by name then its a no go.
If its not banned by name then it needs to be configured as a non-AW and declassified as an AW. After that he can sell it to you.
