A Noob Asks: Buying a second handgun...

I picked up my first handgun, a SA XD9 tactical, on April 24, within 10 minutes of the 10-day waiting period ending.

Now I want to buy a Browning Buckmaster .22 for my daughters. Sadly, I guess I have to wait until May 17th to even initiate the background check.

But here is the obvious question (to me, at least): why do I have to do yet another background check and another 10-day wait when the CADOJ just finished my last one?

Forgive me if this is a dumb question, blame it on me being a clueless noob.

Welcome to Commiefornia. Don't forget the "safe" handgun list, the FSC, 10rnd mag limits, fixed magazine rifles....etc etc. WHY!?
There is no week nor day nor hour, when tyranny may not enter upon this country, if the people lose their supreme confidence in themselves -- and lose their roughness and spirit of defiance -- Tyranny may always enter -- there is no charm, no bar against it -- the only bar against it is a large resolute breed of men.

California makes you DROS every purchase.

Even if you own 300 guns, #301 still is taxed, err, drosed
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Welcome to Calguns Krejaton! Ya, its totally stupid. Straight up its just a way for them to make guns more expensive and hard to own for the little guy (us) and to steal more of our money. What California is best at

For the cost of one DROS, you can join the NRA. It might not seem like much to you but enough guys like you doing that is be the first step in the Dems losing control and loosening gun restrictions
Unless we keep the barbarian virtues, gaining the civilized ones will be of little avail. Oversentimentality, oversoftness, washiness, and mushiness are the great dangers of this age and of this people." Teddy Roosevelt

You are buying the gun for yourself so the daughters can use it and learn!
Suggest not implying you are purchasing for them, not allowed.

As the others have said, dumb rules.
This is being challenged in court, but don't hold your breath.
Esp. silly after you bought a 9mm to have to wait for a .22!
              good luck

You may need to "cool off" before you do something crazy like buy another handgun. Don't forget PPT!

You can purchase a consignment or PPT handgun, they are exempt from "1 in 30" law.

Thanks for the welcome (geoint) and the info all.

This state is such a damn mess, it makes me sick. I have spent all of my 49 years in this place and it has gone from THE best state in the Union to nearing the bottom of the barrel.

Oh well, before I go on a rant, I will just say thanks the the help!
