    So this anti 2nd amendment letter . . .

So this anti 2nd amendment letter showed up in our local weekly newspaper and I feel I need to write in a rebuttal.

Author is so opinionated and presumptuous.

I am so tired of the whole "the NRA made it illegal to research "gun" violence." If they want to spend their money on research instead whatever it is they spend their money on they are free to do so. I don't want federal money spent on "research" with a predisposed outcome either, and if they got an honest researcher they wouldn't like the outcome. I'm glad some of these career researchers aren't making a living off government grants to attempt to prove themselves right.
Oh, and the rest of the letter was equally stupid but I have saw more and more of them blaming the lack of stats in their favor on the NRA making research illegal.

"Take Dade County, Florida, where in five years police records have catalogued only 12 encounters between concealed-carry permit holders and criminals, compared to 100,000 violent crimes overall"

That's 12 less violent crimes that didn't happen because of the CCW
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Notice that he didn't refer to it as "armed citizens vs. criminals".

How many hundreds, if not thousands, of crimes are stopped annually in Dade Co. because an armed homeowner or business owner had a gun but weren't required to have a concealed carry permit.

He lists all of the same talking points(fallacies) from the gun prohibitionist playbook. Does not appear to be written by your average citizen, but a prohibitionist troll. What are the odds the story really happened. I think these story get made up in order to give the editors a new angle to print them. A rebuttal is in order. I think it would be a good test to see how balanced the paper is and if it gets printed.

Absolutely. Article was totally irrelevant to my city and printed under the guise of free speech but really a cowardly anti-2A ploy.

And 99,988 violent crimes where victims were unarmed. If I wanted to play the statistics game I could say "In Dade County Florida an unarmed citizen is 8332 times more likely to be a victim of violent crime then a concealed-carry permit holder."

              It's all in the spin.

I think responsible gun owners need to break up with the NRA. It’s what will make them — and wedding guests everywhere — much safer.
i missed the part of the article where the wedding guests encountered any type of danger, or, were in fear of their lives

i really don't pay any attention to ANYONE's statistics...all i know is that i consider it my own personal responsibility to protect myself and my immediate family, if need be

that's why I stay armed, i really couldn't care any less about anything that anyone else has to say on the matter

the only stat I care about is the one that doesn't include me as a victim

I bet, pretty much, the same reason CNN closed its commentary sections: they weren't getting the line they wanted.
