Im interested in a sbr build and have a couple of questions. Anybody have a link to the sbr form for CA. DOJ? How long should I expect to wait for a response after submittal of form(and money)? If you can buy firearms in calif, are the responses usually favorable? Thx in advance

If you do not own/operate a business catering to the entertainment industry (ie. movie/tv prop master), don't bother.
In CA, you are required to get CA DOJ approval before you can get BATFE approval for obtaining a NFA item.
Use this form, if you intended to proceed with trying to get CA DOJ approval.
You need to get live scanned (ie. fingerprinted) for the application and it'll cost you $51+operator fee. Initial application fee is $321 and yearly renewal fees will depend on how many NFA firearms you have (0-4 $165, 5-25 $750, 26+ $1500).
Unknown wait time on CA DOJ approval/denial.
If you get approved, you can send in your completed Form 1 (ATF 5320.1 for making) or Form 4 (ATF 5320.4 for transfering) with $200 to the BATFE. Note that if you are applying as an individual, you need to get the Chief Law Enforcement Official in your city/county to sign off on your application.
Wait time on BATFE approval/denial is between 2-6 months.
If you get approved and recieve your $200 tax stamp, you can now make or transfer your SBR.
Once you get your SBR, you need to send in this form to register it with CA DOJ and you need to send in this form to register the location the SBR will be stored & vehicles which the SBR will be transported in (SBR can only be stored at the location listed and only transported in the vehicles listed).
After all that, expect yearly CA DOJ audits to check with storage and transporting requirements and don't forget your yearly renewal fees to CA DOJ.
IMO...
If you really want to own a NFA firearm (AOW, DD, MG, SBR, SBS) move to another state. Too many hoops to jump for CA.Last edited by Quiet; 11-12-2008, 8:23 PM.sigpic

they're not even going to grant it to you if you're a law enforcement officer right?
btw how do you go about making a case to register an aw if you're a law enforcement officer like iggy? do you say like, i've been a good boy, i can handle evil features? i handle them everyday at work? i protect and serve to?Comment

Here is the form: http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/dwcl/dwforms.php
It's going to be challenging in the short term to get an SBS permit from CA. That should change relatively quickly however.

If the gun is C&R and you want to make an SBS it is waaay easier and I don't think you have to jump through all the lame hoops and stuff.
Correct me if I am wrong.Comment

It looks like even if I jump through all the hoops to get a semi-auto fixed-mag vz61... That if I want to put on the stock thingie, that I need to SBR it.
