    Success!

Locktite did the trick. I was too impatient to let it sit overnight (and I'd like to go to the range tomorrow sporting new grips).

With the grips off the frame, I first sprayed some silicone lubricant where the screw sat inside the bushing while still in the grip (to eventually help loosen the screw). Waited about 10 minutes then cleaned the bushing threads and the threads that were inside the frame with alcohol. Let it sit for a few minutes then using a Q-Tip, dabbed Locktite on both threads. Screwed the grip back to the frame. After a couple hours I was able to take out the screw with the bushing staying with the frame.

Thanks again everyone for the help.

I was just about to tell you to use loc-tite.

I've done a few of these using loc-tite red. The owners didn't want it backing out again anyways (you can deactivate red with heat later if need be).
