Help me with diy prone scope tripod design

So far I got nothing. And the commercial ones are way out of my budget for what they are.
Am I better off sitting it on sandbags?

I shoot prone matches, and when I read your comment about spotting scope stands being priced out of your budget, I began searching so I could provide you a link to a reasonable priced stand. I tried ebay, and the websites selling competitive equipment, and you are correct, these stands are costly. They have tripled in prices since I bought one. My best suggestion is to search on ebay, and you should find one.

Check out the US Rifle Teams forum, once in a while there are some screamin deals on used equipment. If you really want to do it yourself, our club president uses hex stock for a base and makes his own bases and poles. He's very reasonable and a hell of a nice guy. PM me if you want more info.

Yeah I have been checking ebay. Amazon uk has an opticron bipod that looks like a friend and I could fab pretty easily with aluminum block and steel legs and rod.

If you have the ability to fabricate, I would suggest copying the Creedmore Sports tripod. http://www.creedmoorsports.com/shop/...ope_Stand.html

The design is more simple than the one you referenced, and it works exceptionally well. If you PM me your cell phone number, I'll take some close up photos of mine, and send themto you. You will be able to see what a simple design it is. I just can't believe the prices that are being charged for these items.

Oh nice, that one seems to have more position height options

Hove you looked at a table top camera tripod like these?

As long as your scope has a 1/4 x 20 mounting point, they may work.

That's nice but am afraid it is too small for my scope.

OP, spotting scopes and stands cost a ton of money but they are worth every penny. It's something you will have for a long time. Buy a good stand and a cheap scope then later you can get a quality scope but the stand is just about as important as the scope.
