    Universal M1 .30 Caliber Carbine 3rd Generation

I have a chance to buy one, the information I've gotten from the buy it was made in around 1978 in a place called Hialeah, Florida .
I've got a couple of questions:
He's asking $300 for (plus a couple mag's and a bit of ammo) - worth it?
Any issues with the gun I should know about it?

He's said he's never fired it - safe queen.

I have one, have heard a lot of bad things about them, but I have not had any problems with mine and I have had it since 1979. $300 for a working semi-auto firearm, mags and ammo is almost always a good deal.

You take a shot in the dark with universals. Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes not. Fyi there are more temperamental ones out there than problem free ones. Still 300 is a good price for a shooter. Good luck

Wouldn't waste my money. Look at this link to see the full reasons why, but I'll give you the biggest reason. I have observed the phenomenon myself.

This resulted in the ability of the rifle to fire out of battery.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

The one I had 30 years ago developed the cracked slide, just like the photo in your link.

I couldn't get rid of mine fast enough when I acquired the real thing.

It had a cheap feel and would often fail to feed.

            YMMV.
