Gun laws... Are there really TWENTY THOUSAND LAWS???

    Well,

The Brookings Institutions does not seem to think so. But the ones that are on the books are rather onerous to say the least, those few would seem to make up for the TWENTY THOUSAND that aren't on the books.

Research on the social implications of private gun ownership and gun control. Includes insight into suicides, violent crime, defensive gun use, legislation, enforcement and policy.

Fact: There are more than 22,000 (1) gun laws at the city, county, state, and federal level. If gun control worked, then we should be free of crime. Yet the U.S. government “found insufficient evidence to determine the effectiveness of any of the firearms laws or combinations of laws reviewed on violent outcomes” (2) and also concluded in one study that none of the attackers interviewed was “hindered by any law – federal, state or local –that has ever been established to prevent gun ownership. They just laughed at gun laws.” (3)

        Some law clerk can search
City by city in the U.S.
        County by county
        State by state
        Federal laws- domestic
        Federal laws import
        Federal laws - export
        Executive orders.

        Etc
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
        (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

            From the article:

By itself, the exact number of gun laws in
the United States should be of almost no
interest. After all, laws are not homogeneous
commodities, like bricks or cups of flour, and
the total number of regulations tell us nothing
about the overall stringency of gun
control. However, since the 20,000 figure has
become such an important feature of the
rhetoric against passage of further gun-control
laws, we believe it worthwhile to take a
            look at the facts.

They admit that the factoid has no value to the debate except as rhetoric but they still insist on analyzing it so they can dispute it. Maybe they could have used their time showing how gun control has been effective in reducing crime
Check back later for a witty comment.
